Give it to me Raw

BEEN A PESCO-VEGETARIAN FOR A WHILE AND GETTING EXCITED ABOUT ENJOYING RAW ARTABLES

When I first became a vegetarian at 23, I was living in New York City and attending a small conservatory. There were so many eclectic macrobiotic, vegan and vegetarian places to eat and I really enjoyed eating out in the city. Two years after that, I slowly began eating meat again because I hooked up with a meat-eater for five years in my 20s. Jerk. Just kidding. Me, jerk...

Two years ago, I met my darling- who is helping me get my life where it wants to be... ARTFULLY HEALTHY. I've seen clips on people (friends) in Japan eating sushi off the belly of a whole fish, whose head and tail were still moving, but his belly's had already been sushi-fied. Ugh, that made me feel like the meat eater I still am. I don't care what people say or what all these technical names are for multi-leveled vegetarianism, but fish is still meat. But it really helps that I also became allergic to shellfish at 30. Dang. I miss you crab... my fave..

Since I left my job at the end of January 2009, I've been really getting into gardening and meeting more people who work, own or volunteer at different farms here in Hawai'i. It's like Earth Mama is fully supporting me getting my hands dirty and growing my own veggies. I even dream about gardening...? Is that normal? :) Anway, my darling and I celebrate being together every single day and have been enjoying it so much that we now have little pooches. I LOoooVE eating out. I feel like I'm in my own movie. I love doing things that make me feel that way. Mostly because it feels like I'm on top of life and I'm just living it good.

Ehem, well- Back to the point, he just got us the book RAW by Juliano, whose restaurant in Santa Monica, by the way, is pretty epic. Try one of the tonics. They are the best tasting medicine EVER, if you are feeling a little under the weather. To be honest, I spilled half of it and wanted to lick the table. So I'm preparing more soups for us. Like last night, I made coconut veggie soup with organic potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and ginger.. Yum. And this morning I let go of the past so easily. :) I went to Down to Earth and bought up like $70 worth of live foods and some maple syrup. My darling will get his wisdoms pulled out on the 14th and he would like to start the master cleanse. I think I will start getting ready now... by drinking some already, while I eat soups and simple foods.

Last weekend's Lomilomi session with Uncle Alva Andrews, a practitioner in Waimanalo, who is also a Lua master was bomb. Did you know Lua is the art of breaking bones? Yes. And he reaaraged mine like no one's ever done. The darling thought it was pretty awesome too. The one hour sesh wound up being 4 hours. Words of wisdom and kupuna time included. We kicked it. He is my elder and he wants to kick it with us. He urged us to seek the kupuna (elders), like himself. In Hawai'i, oral tradition is so important. Many things are only passed on by word-of- mouth here. He cracked me like Barbie's knee and if felt like I let go of so much negativity. Then, we floated away to Bellows beach where we camped for a day and a half. We will see him again this Friday.

For now, I will drink my hand-whisked Earl Grey soy latte. Mmm... have a beautiful day in your mind and you will have a beautiful day today..

Aloha Ke Akua~

Did you check out the myspace page? Mahaloz. I actually grew up in So. Cal from 8-20. Always loved NY and I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful Uncle & Aunt in Queens who would fly me to auditions and such cause Uncle cleaned Pan Am airplanes at the time. Eventually, I moved there... Born in Manila, Philippines.
Life here is magic.

Love your voice! did NYC drive you to Hawaii? I'm headed in that direction - possibly. I just know there's GOT to be a better way to live and breathe... i just don't know where that is yet! Well, from what it sounds, your life in Hawaii seems dreamy and beautiful!

Hi Nicole, We don't need any salt at all, and in fact it's always toxic to the body. Salt is a rock, and no matter how small we smash it, it is an inorganic mineral which our bodies cannot really use. Organic sodium is needed by ever single cell ...

The smoke points are important for those people who are cooking with oils, but not those that are 100% raw foodists. Because I get many questions from those that are transtioning, I feel that it's important to answer some ot those questions also. ...
