Give it to me Raw

My second attempt at going "no poo" failed. I don't feel so bad about it though. I just can't stand the feeling of dirtiness. I didn't feel pretty when my hair is greasy and smelly :(

So I've decided that instead of letting go of shampoo, I will stop using my straighter or any form of heat on my hair. Basically, all I will be using is coconut oil for shine. That will be my only "styling product."

Hopefully this will last because I really love looking as natural as possible. My makeup has also gravitated towards the bare minimum lately. This is a huge contrast to what it was three years ago.

Hey guys,

I have been doing the no poo method for about 3 weeks now since reading about it on here. I use a 'natural' conditioner to cleanse my scalp, with tea tree to prevent itches, dandruff, etc.. At first I was washing with conditioner every 3 days, now I'm cutting down to just washing it with water every other time. My hair is absolutely loving it. Less frizz, more curl, loads more shine, soft springy twirls. I'm trying to adjust my hair and scalp slowly so I can still work. This is what Lorraine Massey did, apparently then it gives your scalp time to heal.

I got Lorraine Massey's book, and there are some awesome natural recipes in there, including lavender water, an aloe vera scalp/hair treatment and good quantities for the vinegar rinse etc. Any she makes you feel special! And there's some food tips re getting more volume, getting your canopy to curl more, etc. Definitely recommend!

Has anyone tried a raw flax seed gel? I've looked at a few recipes on youtube but they are all cooked.

love Jessie xxxx

Diet: 70-90% raw, increasing amounts of MSM for hair and skin health
Hydration: 2-3 litres of water/herbal teas daily
Exercise: 1-2 x week jogging/swimming
Hair: No poo, 'natural' tea tree conditioner to wash, followed by very moisturizing conditioner, cool/cold water rinse, then Jasons 'Curl Defining Cream' (with aloe vera), no sulphates or silicones in any products.

Don't feed bad, my hair is super greasy too when I go no poo and I can't stand it. Right now I'm using doctor bronner's magic soap on it and it still gets greasy pretty fast but it's not so bad. I HAVE to use conditioner on my hair though or I literally can't get it combed out.

@FarmSchooler: There's no such thing as a no-fat diet if you're eating whole foods. All fruits have some amount of protein and fat, the breakdown is ROUGHLY 90%carb,5%protein,5%fat for most. Lemons have some fat.

Also, Mastercleanse uses maple syrup, which isn't raw, as well as senna teas and saltwater flushes. There's three variables. It can also be a starvation diet, depending on how much you drink per day. Definitely not comparable at all to a well balanced, nutritionally and calorically sufficient low-fat diet of whole, fresh, ripe, raw organic fruits and vegetables.

But regarding the hair... do you include anything in your diet/body care besides fruit and veggies? Salt, oil, condiments, dehydrated food, supplements, superfoods, etc.? Those could be relevant factors.

Camille, baking soda was to harsh for ME. Many of my hairs broke off at my scalp after only 3-4 applications. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone myself.

If you dont think low-fat is an issue, thats great :o) My statement was in regard to my own experience.

FarmSchooler: I agree with Josh Fossgreen in that Master Cleanse and low fat raw are completely different. Also, I said low fat, not no fat. I get about 10% of my calories from fat daily.

I started no poo today (not the 1st time) – only water, and it's been feeling greasy and weird to the touch, but it looks just fine... I have a pb scalp so I'm hoping it will sort itself out if I stop using chemicals...
I tried baking soda before but I never managed to get the ratio soda/water right... Anybody?
Also, cider vinegar doesn't sound like something I'd want to use on my hair (smell, etc.), but maybe lemon/lime...

Do you have a shower filter on your shower? I do no poo with just water and i have thick curly puerto rican hair. I use coconut oil in it every couple days. My hair is very soft.

But *I* cant ignore the fact that they are both fat free and my issues go away when Im eating fats. Fat could be simply avocados...doesnt have to be animal fats in the event you think thats what Im supposing.

We have raw well water at our house. Its really cool when it comes time to add water to our 20 gallon aquarium. Straight out of the faucet works just fine - lol. I was just wondering about resetting the hotwater heater to below 85 degrees yesterday - lol.
