Give it to me Raw

Tigerlily

Bye bye baked goods and my beloved cookies

I want to take the slow and steady approach to living raw. Every time I've attempted it, I went all the way all at once and could never pass the one week mark. I just end up discouraged and binging on all sorts of bad foods.

So last night, I came up with a list of cooked foods that I eat on a regular basis that I want to eliminate. Every week I'll eliminate something. I'll try not to consume it at all for one week and if I mess up, I can just start again. I have about seven different groups of foods (like baked goods, Diet Pepsi, fake dairy subsitutes, etc) I want to eliminate. I'm not really sure if it makes sense to you. But it makes sense in my head of what I want to do.

"Phase 1" is baked goods. Starting tomorrow, I want to see if I can go the whole week without any breads, cookies, baked desserts, and crackers. Cookies are my number one weakness. I really need to stop eating them because there is no stopping me. I can't just limit myself to one cookie, I need to eat half the bag at least.

I eat cookies like as if they found a cure for heart disease! Kinda gross, I know.

Wish me luck. :)

No cookies or bread today but had brown rice pasta and some rice crackers. Didn't eat raw at all!

:) Thanks guys. I'm excited! Tonight I wanted a sweet snack at work, so I decided to have some cookies before I go cookie-free tomorrow...but I ended up wanting and enjoying grapes instead. :) Yay!

Hey Tigerlily, I wish you well and applaud your determination. Be gentle with yourself as you transition, it may not be a linear process, give yourself space to explore emotional issues that may arise as you detach from processed foods. Unfold the layers, and discover who you really are.

Sounds like a plan. The first thing I eliminated was bread and cookies as a regular part of my diet.
However for the first 3 months I would eat some cookies each week sometimes a bag of natural cookies sweetned with fruit juice sometimes just a large health food cookie. Eventually I lost the desire for them same as ice cream which I substituted with Coconut Bliss and now I don't have any interest in that - just blend frozen bananas , raw cacoa and I am happy .
If you limit yourself to cookies only once a week as I did abov that way you can carry on enough with the healthy food and your body will begin to demand that more and more then y ou won't be " fighting the cravings" as they will become less and less.
Rather than going all or nothing it is better to concentrate on more good food until you naturally lose teh desire for the unhealth food . This is what worked for me.

I don't think this exists for humans yet, unfortunately - but what I think would be the healthiest mattress (and virtually free of dust-mites, even bed-bugs which inflict some homes recently) for humans would be the same as the healthiest for pets...
