Give it to me Raw

So I'm living in South Korea and have been eating pretty healthy. Not all raw but very high raw. I've been exploring new fruits and veggies that I've never had before. The amount of mushrooms they have here is amazing! Their plums are incredible! The mangoes are oh my gosh fantastic!

The grocery store, although HUGE only carries certain fruits and veggies for a very short period of time. AND they only carry what's in season. I missed strawberry season by a week, so I've been craving strawberries for weeks.

I'm grateful that I'm only eating what's in season, but it makes preparing recipes a little hard. I also cannot find ingredients very easily like I could in the states. So it's been a bit frustrating.

I've been doing a lot of steaming of rice and veggies and feasting on fresh, actually ripe fruit.

I would LOVE to find a whole foods style store in South Korea, or just a place I could buy coconut oil, tea tree oil, fresh herbs... OH how I miss basil, dill, cilantro etc.

Does anyone live in South Korea?

Finnegan Kelley - I LOVE IT HERE!!! Korea is super amazing. If you're thinking about doing it, just do it. The packaged food is very strange, I've definitely tried some of it. I've been blogging about my experiences here: www.sheilabocchine.com

Colin - LUCKY! I haven't found anything organic in the little grocery store I go to. The mangoes were from the Philipines. They were heavenly. They also lasted a very short time. Last week I found some fresh figs and again, so delish, but when I went to the stor the other day, they all gone.

Kristi - I've tried emailing you, but my emails never go through... I LOVE It here! Thanks for the info on the organic shop. I wonder if they deliver in Suwon?? I'll ask my friend to look over the sight!

Southern Coast on the east or west side? Are you by the ocean?

Hi. How are you finding life in SK? I've been here for a while now, but only been raw for a short time. I know a website where you can order organic food. I get it delivered to my door and they have a good selection. It's usually better than any that you'd find in a shop. The veggie section is better than the fruit. It's icoop.or.kr. It's all in Korean and you have to register for the site. Someone should be able to help you with that. My friend had to call to get a paper application, because the the online app wouldn't accept my alien number. It's easy to order from, so you'll be able to do it on your own in no time.

I'm on the very southern coast in Suncheon. Keep in touch and good luck in Korea.

PS. Good luck with the herbs. I can't say that I've seen any anywhere. Times are changing though. You may be able to find them one day.

I live in Tokyo, and have little problem in getting fruit and veg, but I do struggle to get some of the fruits I love at a cheap price, such as mangoes and papayas. At the moment, there is a huge range of locally grown melons, and the shortly there will be mountains of peaches, figs, plums, and other similar fruits all at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the organic supply of fruit is limited and expensive, accept for bananas. But, organic veggies are not so expensive. Actually, the supply here is much better than people would expect. By the way, are the mangoes you mentioned grown in South Korea, or are they imported? Where are you in South Korea? It is just an hour flight from Tokyo, so I've been thinking of visiting some time later in the year.

I'm planning on ESLing there for a few years after I graduate - I'd love to hear about your experiences so far! It's hard to get any info from a raw perspective, most of the blogs leave out any info about the different types of fruits available and mainly show all the crazy packaged foods.

don't agree with the whole raw food creating a damp environment thing because of the wildly different effects of different raw foods. i've found candida to respond to 100% raw, several different approaches.
