Raw foods have been a part of my daily diet for years now, ever since I tried to go 100% several years ago. I went from a semi-crappy diet to 100% raw overnight, which was probably not the best plan for me. I had terrible detox symptoms, along with a huge surge of energy that made it difficult to sleep at night! It was not a very pleasant experience.
I managed, all this time, to keep up some of the things I learned during that failed attempt. Green smoothies, sprouting, dehydrating, raw oils and raw nuts are all normal things for me now, and when I do eat cooked foods I usually make the healthiest choices possible. My huge problem is sugar - I am so addicted to it! It's silly that I spend my entire day healthy, only to binge on cake on chocolate at nighttime. After several years of this, I feel like I'm ready to try a higher percentage of raw foods again, and I am mostly looking forward to 100% raw desserts!
I'm a big believer in not wasting food, so my transition will consist of many raw foods, and cooked foods that I already have in my house and need to use up. For instance, this morning I had a big bowl of sprouted, dehydrated buckwheat with flax meal and agave, but I used soy milk that I had around the house on top of it. I'm sipping on a green smoothie as I write this, but for lunch I'm going to have the rest of a wonderful roasted vegetable salad that I made the other day that I don't want to go to waste. I'm hoping that this practical behavior will actually help to make my transition easier. I think I might have to toss the chocolate pudding that is sitting in my fridge though - sugar bad!
I'm really delighted to find this community. I don't think anything like this existed when I first found raw foods. Looking forward to finding support and inspiration here.
