Let Them Eat Cake!

I just got back from a fantastic vacation in Dallas. 10 days away really was refreshing. And I love how being gone makes me love the mountains and my home so much more. I had a great time with my family, great time with friends, great time at Bliss Cafe... yes, I spent a lot of time there. I think I tried almost everything on the menu. Almost.

Raw in Dallas - Bliss Cafe, baby!

Bliss Café in Dallas.

My first Raw Restaurant Experience was stellar. Here's my mom and me showing off the Bliss sign while my dad acts as the photographer. If you’re ever in the Dallas metroplex – hitting up Bliss Café is a definite raw foodist must. Non-raw foodists are welcome too. At… Continue

The Curious Case of... Me!

Wish Upon a Dandelion

My green smoothie today has dandelion greens, ginger, a pear, one scoop of green Superfood, cilantro, some water to thin it up a bit, and celery. Speaking of dandelions. When I was a kid, I used to take the seeded buds, make a wish then blow the white, wispy seeds all over the yard - or where ever I was. I'm sure all the weeders of the world were thrilled by that. However, I know all those wishes came true and I played an important role in the pollinization of dandelions. As the song on the soun… Continue

One Year Raw Anniversary and Other Musings

I just looked down at my shirt to see if I'd spilled my morning tea on it. Yeah, my middle name is Grace. I hadn't. But the glance did show me a smallish stain from the other day (I often wear the same shirt more than once in a week...so shoot me). Maybe I should have separate clothes piles. One for "clothes with raw food spills" and another one for "clothes okay to wear another day before washing." Just a thought. Tomorrow is my One Year Raw Anniversary! Hooray Me! What a difference a year make… Continue

Pain Free is the Way to Be!

Today is day three of no pain. Try it. I recommend it. I have a smidgen of stiffness in my wrists but that's about it. Maybe this happened because I restarted doing the daily Five Tibetan Rites yogic practice. Maybe it's because I'm eating more greens and less fruit. Maybe it's because my body finally decided I was serious about healing. Or maybe my chakras and the stars just synced (is that a word?) up and that's that. This morning drizzly raindrops fell in mists. Wispy, wraithlike clouds of ra… Continue

Slides, earthworms, fasts and Raw Food

s posted this website on one of her Tweets.http://1000awesomethings.com/ I'm having a lot of fun reading through it. How simple is it to look at the fun things in life instead of the bad? It's just a matter of shifting perspective. Some of the entries took me right back to the great joy of being a kid. You know, the times when it was okay to go to the park without adult supervision? My siblings and I (and maybe a neighbor kid or two) would spend the entire day outside only coming indoors to scav… Continue

'Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with,' the Mock Turtle replied...

I'm eating up all the greens that were left over in my fridge. Somehow I misjudged last week and either didn't eat what I thought I would or bought too much. This emptying of fresh food is in lieu of doing a four or five day cleanse. I haven't decided yet. Probably, I'll just play it by ear. I want to refresh my body and my mind while I am trying to reevaluate my diet. Up to now it's been predominately fruits with a nice smattering of greens and some nuts and seeds. The information I've been get… Continue

Civil War, Peace Talks, X-Ray Results and RA

Snow in April. Not that unusual for Colorado. However, it really does seem that Winter and Spring got mixed up or decided to swap months. So long as the roads aren't slick I don't mind. Not to say that I wouldn't rather be home on couch... but heck, that goes without saying. Last year when it snowed my brother made an army of snowmen in the driveway. Ala Calvin and Hobbes.

Healing, Arthritis, Belief, And Several Quotes

Like the Crazy Sexy Cancer Lady (http://www.crazysexycancer.com/) who embraces her experience with cancer I also am embracing my experience with Rheumatoid Arthritis. To tell the truth, I'm glad I have RA. If I hadn't been diagnosed with RA I might never have found the raw lifestyle or learned as much about health and nutrition as I have in the past year - or have discovered the friends who have made this journey fun. Pain drives us to change. I don't know why it has to be painful but that seems… Continue

The time has come, The Walrus said, To talk of many things

Love, love, love. I love my new floor. Now I think I will save up my nickles and dimes so I can put that same wood laminate in the living room too. I originally thought I'd replace it with more carpet - carpet has a warmth to it that helps out during winter - but I got to thinking about how dirty carpet fibers can get. And didn't God make socks to keep our feet warm in winter? The carpet I have now has been there 28 years. I will not even imagine what is down in those seams and threads. I'd prob… Continue

What's this I hear about old things passing away?

Well, my old floor passed away. Hooray! The downstairs wood laminate is in and the laundry room vinyl is in! The floor installer will return on Monday to finish the upstairs bathroom. Because house work always takes longer than the prescribed amount of time. It's like car repairs and American Football time. You have to tack on a bunch more minutes or hours. How long do those guys need to huddle up and discuss that play, really? Now I want wood flooring for the rest of the house. This is a Before… Continue

Rheumatoid Arthritis

I had my six month check up with my rheumatologist today. Although I've been able to keep my pain bearable or low with my raw lifestyle (I'll celebrate one year Raw on May 9th) - I haven't been able to completely eliminate the stiffness, swelling and pain especially in my wrists. The doctor is strongly urging me to start taking Methotrexate.

A Smorsgasbord of Thoughts

I've never liked the word smorsgasbord but I'm feeling contrary today so I decided to title my blog using the word. I made and consumed a Sunrise Smoothie yesterday. It had mango, carrot, ginger, banana and I added some hemp protein powder... I don't remember what else the recipe called for. It was tasty. Ah, here it is: http://www.fromsadtoraw.com/Recipes/SunriseSmoothie.htm I'm so ready for the fruit abundance of spring. Peaches. I'm craving peaches. Peaches, peaches, peaches. And reaso… Continue

There's No Place Like Home

I love my home. Also I love mini-blizzards that give me impromptu three day weekends. A blessing from God - a special gift for me. That's what it felt like. "Thank you," I say. "It was perfect." I sorted through my bookshelves and weeded out the books I know I will never read or will never read again. On Saturday when I was out doing a slew of errands I took some of those books to the local used bookstores and got $9.00 cash money. Cash is like gold. Er, yeah. Um. Now that my brother isn't in th… Continue

Change

After a year and a half of living with me my brother is moving out. I've got mixed feelings about the change. I think change always makes me somewhat disgruntled - whether it's good or bad - but once my mind has had a moment to chew it over then I can make a decision about if I really like it or not. I think this move out will have the potential to help my brother learn and practice more financial wisdom. It's the next step in his journey of being stable. What a rigid sounding word. Or an oat an… Continue

Reflections on More than One Thing

I'm going to a raw potluck tonight. Gonna make my sweet potato dish and see if others like it like I do. A man will be there to talk about creating gardens in Colorado. It'd be really great to be able to go into my backyard and pick my dinner. Or breakfast. Or lunch. Or second breakfast. Right up out of the ground. And here I just broke punctuation rules - don't "they" say, "you gotta know the rules to break them?" Sometimes writing is really just going by the sound and cadence of the words. On… Continue

Carrots, cartoons and cinema

I've been eating carrots in their raw unadulterated state. Well, I've washed them but that's about it. I wish I could just pull them out of the ground. I'll have a garden one day. Just wait and see that I don't. Everytime I bite into a crunchy carrot I think, "What's up, Doc?"

Must b… Continue

My Kingdom for a Good Night's Sleep

My friend is a massage therapist. She's the best massage therapist in the world. Because of her skill she's usually booked out months ahead of time. I've had a crick in my neck for a couple of weeks. Of course, I tried to work it out on my own with exercises to no avail. It got bad enough where I was having some pain radiating up into the base of my skull. That sounds more drastic than it was. Or maybe not...

Who Gave Me Insomnia?

I've been sleeping too lightly lately. Waking up around 3:30 in the morning then having a hard time getting back to sleep. This morning I realized I awoke because some little yippy dog was trying to prove its ferocity. I thought as I plugged my ears, "Why? Can't that wait at least until the sun comes up?" Who lets their dog out at 3:30 ante meridian?
