Home is now Colorado

Well, that's it. I am now in Longmont, CO, as of about a week now. Still sorting through all the boxes in the garage, but at least I am somewhat settled in and the home office is up and running again. For now, I applied at the local temp agency for a job asap, and looking at options in the sector for this month. Once schools get started up again, I'll sub there until an opening for full time teacher comes open.. that is unless I all of a sudden make tons of money online and then I won't have to… Continue

Home Stretch

I am on the home stretch to moving... 2 weeks... I spent the entire weekend clearing out the garage and packing what I'm taking. That and the shed in the backyard, as well as the back porch. What a day! I'm feeling the crunch of approaching dead line. Everything has to be ready by the 19th of this month, no ways around it. Most of the house itself is packed, though this week I am packing everything but the bare minimum I need for the following week, as in 1 towel, 1 plate, 1 bowl, etc. Isn't it… Continue

Strawberry Pie

I got together with my mom, sister, and her 2 kids this morning to prepare all the deserts for our September birthday celebration. We've got 4 virgos, so we kinda of group everyone into one weekend. It's more fun that way and all the candles makes quite the spectacle. We ended up with 2 conventional, family recipe chocolate cakes, 1 raw vegan strawberry cake, and 1 raw vegan coconut/macademia "cheese" cake. You can see the strawberry pie in my photo rotation on my profile. Here is a quickContinue

MSG and its many forms

MSG is monosodium glutamate. It is a neurotoxic flavor enhancer. Are you aware of its many names and forms? I wasn't, until very recently when I decided to look it up, out of curiosity. What I found out basically, is that it is in pretty close to every processed food out there, whether it appears on the label or not. Things as unthreatening sounding as "broth" (chicken, beef, pork, or veggy) ALL have MSG in it. It is not labeled because the MSG was not added to the product -in which case… Continue

Have you read The Thrive Diet?

I have recently acquired The Thrive Diet, by Brandon Brazier, a tri-athlete from Canada, and absolutely love it. I am careful about some of his recipes are they are for someone who is very physically active, which I am unfortunately not at this time... and in smaller quantities and being mindful of ingredients, they taste wonderful. I also like the fact that his life is indeed so demanding physically, and that he is able to do it on a completely vegan diet, though not completely raw. Brandon d… Continue

Having fun with Squidoo lenses

I've discovered Squidoo recently and have been playing with it a bit. I have not done a raw page as yet, though it's definitively on my list of to-do. It's really alot of fun. Since I love comic books, particularly the european kind, that's what I started with. You can check the list of lenses (pages) done so far here: www.squidoo.com/lensmaster/Sunfish Scroll down to the list of page titles and click on the one you want… Continue

Rest of 10 Day Cleanse

Let's see. I guess this cleanse is officially over as of today, this being day 10.

It doesn't really feel like a cleanse was going on. Going back to my regular way of eating hardly involves any changes, except for the olive oil, small handful of nuts and an occasional avocado, which I do miss.

This did very much open up the possiblity of experimenting with more dressing, rather than relying on the easy to reach bottle of olive oil though, so that's a major shift for me.

Day 6 of 10 day cleanse

It's Saturday morning and I am waking up from a great night sleep.

I think I am getting the hang of this! I'm still feeling tired at the end of the day though no so drastically. I'm making sure to have plenty of fruits snacks as I need, and eat more bananas than I would normally. That seems to help.

I'm also trying out new salad dressing from tomatoes and other veggies rather than oil, and that I really like.

Another great thing is that I am not having any bread cravings

Day 3 of 10 day cleanse

Today was a little better, though I am still overall very tired. More than tired, actually, I get to where in the afternoon I have a very hard time concentrating on anything. I could not do anything on the computer without feeling completely drowsy. I had to keep moving or I felt like I could just fall over from lack of energy.

I went and bought a bunch of bananas after school. Without the nuts and the olive oil in my salad, I think I'm just not getting enough calories.

Trying out a 10 day cleanse

Frederic Patenaude is doing a 10 day mostly mono meal cleanse and I am trying it out to see what happens.

The rules are fresh fruits, greens, and veggies.

No fats of any kind, as in avocado, oil, nuts and seeds.

Preferably very simple meals with least amount of ingredients, and mono fruits meals if possible.

Monday was the first day. It went fine overall, though I was extremely tired by the evening and went to bed early. I did not sleep well at all. In fact, I woke

Central heat / AC and Juicing

A few days ago I finally had central heat / AC installed in my house. I live in Texas, so as you can imagine, most people could not understand why I did not do that 10 years ago, when I bought this house.

My answer is usually along the lines of: What do you think people did in the days BEFORE central heat / air?

In summer, I've learned to do it the "old fashion" way as well. That is, open windows and turn on fans during the night, close everything when the sun starts warming up.

Is Goal Setting Bad For Your Health? Part I

Is Goal Setting Bad For Your Health? (part I)

I have come across an interesting concept while discussing goal setting with peers. The idea was raised that:

By making goals, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Have you ever encountered this? Either personally or as a concept?
