progression or regression?

i have these thoughts all the time about what is really "good" for us. have we progressed at all or are we just making a bigger mess?? now that i have realized that the best kinds of foods are the ones that have been tampered with the least, it occurred to me... perhaps most of the things we do can never really beat what is most easily done with the simplest of ingredients. is all of this new technology really better or are we paying for it in some way? should we really keep trying to invent th… Continue

Darwin was onto something...

humans are in constant motion. we live to move. some of us may be moving at a bit of a slower pace, but we are all moving about in many different directions. yet all of those directions lead to a communal whole. and this motion, like a flock, created a bigger picture, in which each of us contributes. it occurred to me today, that all of us have gotten to where we are through a personal evolution. we all have personal milestones which we have attained, and we are at a place in life because of ou… Continue

And the world spins madly on....

Lately I have felt helpless... I feel like I need to grow as a person, yet the world around me is keeping me in one place. Since coming back home from New Zealand, although I have a lot of support in some ways - financially, socially, my needs are being met. But as much as I try to settle into a life here with the people I have grown up with and have given me the love they were able to give to me, there is something in me saying: "there is more out there." What happens when the people around y… Continue

Scar Tissue

Lately I've been struggling... I just moved back home after being away for 10 months in New Zealand. I didn't leave in a good state either - a conflict with a guy made me decide to leave, and feeling helpless in a country where I had a much smaller support system allowed me to come to the realization of just how much my family and friends mean to me. So I left... But since being back I have been struggling to keep the diet I previously had and was working very well for me. With the constant su… Continue

Raw Kitten

So I decided that if I was going to reap the benefits of the raw lifestlye, so should my little kitten. I put Sonny on raw cat food about the same time that I went raw. (Btw, there is a company in Canada that does raw cat food called Posh Kosh. I am sure there must be others as well). My kitten when from the tiny thing you see in my pictures, to a strapping young man, who could put many other cats to shame! He is pure muscle - he even intimidates my sister's dog Titus. What I feed my cat: - Posh… Continue

Vitamin Assignement - Wanted to share my hard work!!! Some tables did not come out well :(

Running head: Case Study Assignment Case Study Assignment: Vitamins Julie Bourbonnais (7024) Nutrition 2 Rationale The case studies at hand are presented in a manner that imply that the people in question have an imbalanced state within their bodies and must manipulate certain environmental factors in order to restore this balance. It is suggested that ingesting vitamins is the solution to the problem, since certain nutrients have shown to improve some health conditions. Al… Continue

Intestinal Flora - The Missing Link?

Bacteria, an often feared specimen, may just be what we have overlooked in our quest for health. Human for centuries have become increasingly sterile - in our environment, our hygiene practices and even in our food. We clean everything and wash and scrub our bodies and our food. But perhaps we are doing ourselves a great disservice in doing so. Bacteria and other organisms help keep things in balance. They populate the soil and make nutrients for the plants that inhabit them. The plants in turn… Continue

You're suppose to be able to pick the leaf out of the middle - and it comes out realllllllll easy - if it's ripe. It should smell ripe too.

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...

Yes, I believe two out of the four pineapples I've had the last several months have been alright with me, after having let them "ripen" for some days. The one that turned out the best was one I stored in a bag of ripening bananas. I did the same t...
