I did it! I spent a day at the local (Olinda) carnival festivities while raw and survived!!
Honestly I expected more to it. I thought old, bottled-up feelings would surface (as I've said before, my dad died right after carnival, 15 years ago), but nothing happened. Carnival is here. It is a huge thing in Brazil – not only the samba from Rio, but so many different sounds and rhythms, especially here in the Northeast. In fact, my city has the largest carnival parade in the world, which gathers about 1.5 million people every year (I’ve only been to that one once or twice! Too much of a crowd for me!! :))
