So... I seem to have the flu (fever, check, chills, check, achy, check :( ).
I've been 100% raw since January, so I don't really want to fall back on my previous solution to this problem (lots and lots of chicken soup).
What suggestions do folks have for things to eat raw that make you feel better when you have the flu? I'm finding cold raw foods very off putting given that I'm having chills from fever :(

Just a quick update...
I'm down 144lbs now since Jan 11, 2009.
And starting about 1.5 weeks ago, I can kick up into a handstand by myself (picture of first kick up into handstand below, I am way to far from the wall... but it was the first time getting up :) ):

At some point I really should by new clothes..…

Some of you may recall my
post from 2 months ago about having lost 101 lbs since Jan 11, 2009.
So now, two months later, I'm down 130 lbs since Jan 11, 2009. Here's the updated progression photo:

I am trying to make
raw samosa's.
The recipe calls for peas... and I'm a little confused as to whether one can actually *get* raw peas.
I found some english peas in the produce section, are these likely to be raw?

Today is my six month anniversary of going raw (Jan 11).
Good News: I discovered today I no longer have high blood pressure :)
Bad News: I discovered this as a result of fainting into the bathtub :(
Good News: I am apparently unharmed by the experience :)
I have been progressively cutting my high blood pressure medication as I have had episodes of positional hypotension. I'd gotten down to less than 1/8th what I was taking 6 months ago.
Given that my blood pressure post fainting came in at…

I've recently started taking large doses of MSM (30-45 g per day or so) and I'm experiencing an increase in wellbeing that is on a par with when I finally went 100% raw.
Does anyone else have experience with taking such large doses longer term?
Anything to watch out for?

Below, you see Apple Ginger Cinnamon Pancakes topped with Banana and Pecans with a Goji Vanilla Agave Dressing from the Daily Juice Cafe here in Austin.
They are transcendentally delicious.
They are also, sadly, not currently part of the permanent menu :( If you are in Austin and you happen by the Daily Juice Cafe, try the pancakes, and lovingly let them know: 'The Pancakes Must Persist!' :)

So I can now do full handstand (at the wall, with an assist getting up).
The trick turns out to be in a modification of the assist in getting up.
The traditional assist essentially involves doing down dog with your hands near the wall, lifting one leg in the air, and having the person providing the assist lift the lifted leg up against the wall, then you pull up your other leg (which is usually up off the ground by that point).
You can probably guess the problem with me receiving the traditio…

As I noted
earlier I've lost 101 lbs since going raw on Jan 11, 2009.
But as I've been monitoring my other health issues, I thought I would share with the community what else has improved.
I used to suffer from
pre-diabetes, with a fasting blood glucose of around 116. As of April 10, my fasting glucose is 85, well within the normal range of 65-100.
I us…

I have an old (17 years old) injury to my foot that had never pained me after initial healing until 2 months ago (I went raw 4 months ago). At the time I chocked it up to rehealing, and it resolved in a few days.
Now, my foot is hurting *a lot* and is swollen and seems to be getting worse day to day (I have done nothing to aggrevate it, either initally or subsequently). The one difference I can think of between this flair up and the one two months ago is that I am currently a salsa *fiend*. I h…

I *think* I'm starting to get a sense of the difference for me between detox and illness.
Last Wednesday I started getting that germie feeling in the back of my throat that usually means I'm starting to get a cold. My energy levels were still great, and other than that I felt wonderful.
Thursday I felt great, but the germie feeling was accelorating.
Friday I felt awful, the germie feeling was really bad, and I started getting cold like symptoms (runny nose, congestion, fatigue, etc).
By Sund…

Someone recently, in the comments to someone else's blog post indicated they had discovered the perfect raw walnut taco meat. I need that recipe, those I've tried to date just don't quite work out as well as I'd like.
So, what is your favorite raw walnut taco meat recipe?

So... I have been 100% raw since Jan 16, and I feel fabulous.
I have however, out of precaution, consulted my doctor, and had some blood work done.
Overall, it came back fantastic.
However, my BUN is low, as is my calculated globulin is also low.
My physician isn't really concerned at this point, but a dear friend of mine who is a physician has expressed a concern that these values are low because I'm not getting enough protein (I pretty much live on large quantities of fruit and salad, a li…

Yesterday, as part of my growing détente with sunlight, I went for a long walk in a lovely park midday... and forgot to use sunscreen :(
I noticed later in the day in the mirror that I had a fairly bad sunburn. Since then I have applied aloe and neem, but I find it remarkable that:
a) It has not hurt at all.
b) It is simply fading, and fast.
Has anyone else noticed a difference in their response to sunburns since going raw?
