There are many reasons why people are overweight – stress, lack of exercise, lack of knowledge concerning correct nutrition, over-worked, laziness etc. But I believe one of the most potent reasons for overeating is emotions. It is a well-known fact that we all have emotions, in fact, since we came out of the womb we have expressed emotions: we usually come out with a cry then we begin to smile, laugh, and as we grow we become more expressive of our emotions; we love, we hate, we fear…there are a… Continue

One of the fears I encounter with people who are interested in joining my program is, that they can’t have something. What happens when emotions come up and they can’t have that comfort food? Those starches? That chocolate? or, whatever it is they crave?
Well, the difference between my program and weight loss diets is, there is no “can’t have”. What it will come down to is “want to have”.
One of the most exciting moments (whic… Continue

Last Monday night when training with my teacher and the group, I noticed that my teacher was looking like he'd gained some weight.
After class we were talking and he'd mentioned he'd gained back about 8-10 pounds.
He told me he realized it wasn't about the food; he'd not been doing his former habit of binging and throwing up BUT he was overeating. What he did realize, for himself was that it was about having the good. This makes sense because when we reach a certain level of good which is beyo… Continue

Life has been pretty torrential lately, and I'm having a difficult time articulating to myself what exactly has made it such a struggle. I think a large part of this is my own insecurity and therefore dependence on other people to give me doses of confidence...a rather unhealthy (emotionally, spiritually, personally) way to live. In addition, there has been a great deal of change and upheaval that has resulted (per my usual life cycles) in a recurrence of anorexic/bulimic habits and thoughts. Th… Continue

This was a recent question from my blog at www.reneoswald.com/blog
Hi Rene,
I’ve been eating lots of spouted wheat berries in so many recipes. I use them in crackers, cookies, burgers, as a breakfast cereal—tossed with raisins and bananas or other fruits or just tossed into a… Continue

So, as some of you may know, my personal life has experienced a bit of turbulence over the past year. Which has caused me to yo-yo back and forth between cooked and raw. Which has made me very unhappy, which has made me yo-yo some more, which has made me more lethargic, which...
You get the general picture. I remember when I first went raw about a year and a half ago. It was an overnight decision and my first few months were smooth. I heard Anthony Anderson of rawmodel.com talking about food ad… Continue
Oh, the things I ate when I was sad. Pastas, pastries, pizzas. Cookies, cakes, candies. Pretzels, cereals, bread, peanut butter, burritos, olives, chips, sauerkraut if I was desperate. Thousands and thousands of calories' worth. I've been a bit down in the dumps quite a few times before, and I was really down in the dumps the past few days. Like many, I turned to the friend who is only there to comfort the… Continue

I just finished watching the film "Disfigured" and it really made me think about my self-perception and body image and behaviors. Disfigured is a low-budget independent film about the friendship between and lives of a fat woman and a thin (recovering anorexic) woman. I think it's a very good movie and I really enjoyed watching it. Anyway, it made me think about a lot of the thoughts that are almost constantly in my head. I wanted to blog about it because I just wanted to share my thoughts, and m… Continue

I have come to realise something I have always know, but it’s one of those things you ignore - I have emotions, which can and do manifest physically beyond just emotional eating. On the 2nd day of our juice fast, I found myself strangely emotional -just introverted and quietly confronting some of my thoughts and ingrained “beliefs” about myself. Leisa’s lecture on the Emotional Aspects of Healing came at the perfect time, and opened up a whole new perspective for me. I am still digesting the inf… Continue

I have been searching high and low for something (in a poor college student's budget) that would replace coffee...not necessarily as a stimulant but as a ritual.
My family is a "coffee family" and it's ALWAYS time for a cuppa joe. Especially now that I am living alone, I find that I really miss the comfort of a cup of coffee in a nice steaming mug. The smell, the taste, the warmth. Well, as it's 95 degrees still outside, not so much the warmth right now, but as it gets on towards finals that's… Continue
