I am totally in this same predicament right now, although I'm in the middle of a 2-week juice feast - my attempt to jump-start eating raw again. Quitting coffee (for the umpteenth time) is going to be the hard part for me. Good luck, you deserve ...

It could be an allergy to coconut oil, I'd try light sesame oil before I quit doing it altogether. Also it sounds like serious detox - try gentle dry-brushing on the outer edge of the face and behind your ears, down towards the heart. This clears ...

Haha, that's certainly a sensational way to interpret that article! I read it yesterday and the bit about raw being an "emotional amplifier" really hit home for me. That's definitely what pulls me back to eating cooked food, alcohol, and caffeine ...

Kale, avocado, tomato, flaxseed oil, bananas, sprouted lentils, kombucha, and raw sunflower seeds! All very useful for a lot of different stuff.

I just had a fruit smoothie with flaxseed oil and an egg yolk + pineapple, strawberry, oranges, spring water. Definitely creamier than usual! However, the idea of drinking an egg whole still totally squicks me out. Shades of 'Cool Hand Luke'... O...

Spring 7-day juice fast redux

I'm in the middle of it. Started on Thursday, breaking it with salad lunch with my mother on Thursday afternoon. Have not been sleeping particularly well, some due to Personal Life Drama(tm), but if I weren't prone to sleep poorly I bet it would bother me less. Real low on focus, hands have been aching on and off all week (I've managed to isolate this to a gluten sensitivity). I started the first few days with the same headachy, I-don't-want-to-get-out-of-bed-yet feeling that I had back when I w… Continue

Cleanse day 9

I feel awake and alive, although my eyes still aren't focusing right when I look at the computer :\ Over the course of the week I decided to let myself have some fruit juices because I was going kind of mad with just citrus, also I had to have lunch with my mother on Tuesday and it would have looked rude to not eat anything. We went to this macrobiotic place where I had carrot juice and some miso broth. So I'm sure the cleanse wasn't as effective as it could have been if I'd just followed the Ma… Continue

Starting the Master Cleanse today

Wow, I think I may be in that group of people who just can't do the salt water flush every morning. I felt like I was going to vomit! I had to lay around and do some really gentle floor yoga for about an hour, my body was just not happy with it. I didn't get up til about 11am (late night & trying to beat the caffeine headache) but there were some times between then and 12:30 when I just didn't feel like moving, I felt so ill.

BUT.

I got my wind back around 1pm and have been go, go, go ever… Continue

Using cooked food to quiet negative emotions

This is what I do, I realized. When everything is just too frustrating and I feel like the world is asking too much of me, I can't get angry because that would make me look irrational and stupid (or so say the voices in my head, haha). When I can't get angry, I have to do something to suppress that anger, and that often comes in the form of overprocessed starch + fat - a burrito, pad thai, etc. And of course I could eat the raw versions of these things, but that's not the point - food really *is… Continue

Avocado overload!

For some reason, eating guacamole made from 2 avocados, a tomato, and some sunflower seed "sour cream" with a few sauerkraut-flax crackers (from my local health food store) made me feel incredibly, disgustingly full and brain-foggy. It reminded me of the way I have felt after eating huge SAD meals with beer. However, I'm having trouble getting enough calories without eating a lot of seeds and avocados. I'm experiencing a lot of fatigue lately, some of it is from coming out of a depressive episod… Continue

No problem. Give me a week or so to find a good kombucha culture for you - should be able to get it to you before Christmas. Meanwhile, happy holidays!

Yay a buddy! I've decided to start tomorrow to boost my odds of success (the 1st 3 days wont all be at home where boredome kicks in and I stray from any diet) I've stocked up on lemons, pepper and syrup as well as herbal teas (yogi brand, have one called "fasting" to curb hunger I highly reccomend it though you get to crave it after a while!)

"Avoid beating yourself up over "food sins," " I hear ya!! I had to force myself to stop that after I realized how silly and neurotic it sounded. Its just food and a little bad will not "knock you off the wagon" just get right back to it and life is still grand.

Hi there,

Yes, her talk was amazing! I saw her last year the week I first went raw and she really inspired me to keep going. I see you said you're on a student budget- where are you in school? What are you studying?
