A group for runners to share diet and performance advice. This is specifically geared to marathon and long-distance runners--a unique breed if I do say so myself--who are more focused on endurance rather than 'bulking up.'

Hi Zooey, I only just joined this group and am checking out the discussions, so sorry this is so late. Anyhoo... I've been a runner for about six years. My first year of running was injury free. I joined a running club and about six months after,...

Hi, Caleb. I don't have any issues with self-motivation, I just like running and talking with smart people and sharing the experience. I've had 18 mile runs go by in the blink of an eye just because of good company. It helps too that I'm not train...

Do you not like running by yourself? I just recently started running and I run by myself. I've never really even desired to run with somebody else. Do you find it motivates you more? I've ready before it's better not to run with people, especially...

Hey Zooey! Great to see someone aboard who has a mind.... um, and mouth... of his own! :) I'm also highly raw, and a raw chef to boot - BUT, I'm not into all the 'raw vegan' exclusivity that, for many, comes along with the territory. I'd like to abolish all the old paradigms about 'diet' and start over from GO. When clients or friends start morbidly bashing themselves on their weakness for Baskins Robins - I just remind them that everything is a choice. Choose to live as healthy as you can every day, or don't. It's an evolution not a revolution. AND, in the last moments of your life, you probably won't be thinking about the last burger you stuffed in your face. So let's stop pretending food is life and start living. You know? :) HOLY RANT-NESS! SOooo what do you teach? Film???

I'm so sorry about your mom. I've never had anyone really close to me die, so I have no idea what that's like (although I've had a few relatives murdered, strangely enough).

I went out to Old Mission and it felt so good to be there. Went to a new winery called Two Lads and bought some lovely Pinot Grigio.

I'm impressed with a lot of the growth in TC. My friends ran into Michael Moore downtown and got some pics with him- they're very conservative, so not exactly fans, but they couldn't resist, and everyone up there seems grateful to him for what he did with the State Theater and the film fest.

I spent a lot of time in Leelanau- it's just magical to me. I could really see myself becoming a vintner someday and having an orchard, too. Maybe I'll have the first biodynamic farm up there:)

How was your trip? I'm on the last day of mine. It's been good- I have a tiny half-assed cold from eating naughty things and being around contagious people, but I'm managing to keep it controlled.

Are you having fun? I'm flipping out- I just found out that Matthew Kenney (former partner at Pure Food and Wine) is part of the Epicurean Classic in TC in september. He's doing a raw food reception at Oryana Co-op. Maybe there's hope for our neck of the woods, after all;) I'm tempted to go up there for that!

Help! Dinner in Santa Monica

Hi, all you Westsiders. I need a restaurant for tomorrow, Thursday night, in Santa Monica. Though I love Veganlovesrawvolution, I'm looking for something that's not necessarily raw but that can accommodate both of our tastes--she's not raw, but a vegetarian.
I really do not like the atmosphere and attitude of Juliano's raw, so any other tips for the area would be great.
Thanks!
Z

The perfect water bottle

Hi, everyone. What is the real poop on these stainless steel water bottles? It gives me the creeps to drink out of plastic (mark my words, plastic is tomorrow's asbestos).

I've checked out the SIGG bottles and the knock-offs and am getting all this nit-picky arguing between each camp.
Can anyone just give me some common sense advice?

Thanks,

Z

This radio show is the salve for bleeding hearts everywhere; I've been listening for years.
In case you missed it, last night's episode, dealing with the theme of death was totally captivating:

Howard Zinn tonight in Venice

Crazy. Howard Zinn is going to be at the Electric Lodge tonight.
For those of you who don't know him, checkout: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Zinn

He'll be presenting a one-act play about Karl Marx coming down to earth to defend his teachings. Could be very bad, but it's worth checking out just for the novelty.

If I can have eyebrows like his when I'm an old man, I will be very happy.

Afterglow

Yow, was this event ever lame. My friend said, 'It's like a grade school raffle.'
Nice to be out though and run into so many familiar faces. I'm starting to feel like I actually live in a community.
I hope that those of you who went had a great time,

I always used to get sick on foods from restaurants, but the same meal I prepared at home wouldn't make me sick.... restaurants tend to drown foods in butter and oils, you've probably been eating less of those since going on those diet.
