Hi, I work for a small farm in central California and we sell real raw 2009 new crop almonds for $8.00 a pound. They are certified organic and untreated. You can call 1-877-3-RAW-NUTS to order.

It's really good in phase 1 green smoothies with avocado, cilantro, cucumber and celery. More like a soup. Way better than Starbucks!

I've never tried it, but it makes total sense. After all, a lot of cooked greens get dressed with a bit of vinegar just before eating and raw greens with a bit of vinegar on is quite nice too.

I enjoyed my time at the Sanctuary. If you can try to get one of the houses that face onto the ocean. So soothing to hear the sounds of the waves all night. The only thing I didn't like was the Friday night parties, not held at the Sanctuary, but...

Here is a good one in NJ but worth the trip, very professional, he really takes his time, interested in your history first, understands the benefits of raw vegan nutrition: http://www.drfuhrman.com

I guess I'll amend this with asking if anyone has a doctor who is either vegetarian or vegan or raw themselves? Someone who "gets" it. I feel like so many doctors hear you don't eat meat and try to guilt you back with outdated misinformation.

It's the accepts insurance part that's the hardest! I know two MD's that are very holistically minded but neither accepts insurance. I really liked Marjorie Ordene but she is way out in Midwood, Brooklyn. Because of where she's located her rates a...

Hey, can anybody in NYC recommend any holistic doctors, GPs? I need to find one, and I'm having a hard time finding one online. I want someone who can be a good blend of both western and alternative approaches, and accepts insurance. Thanks!

Oh, definitely... ACV in a smoothie is great! Besides my raw soda recipe variations, ACV is just great in savory smoothies to give them a delicious zing.

arent even those "pasteurized"--though they claim to have a new "state of the art" pasteurization system that uses a vacuum chamber instead of steam....thus leaving the almonds raw. (?)

I was always a disaster in the kitchen, so I'm looking for quick and easy raw recipes that are as fool-proof as possible. Also, I'm definitely dealing with cravings and tendencies to cheat...I'd love some help there.

Finding Balance

So, I've been having a LOT more success lately with my transition diet ... cold turkey was not working for me (Jeckyll & Hyde eating habits) so now I'm only buying raw groceries, doing my green smoothies, and eating vegetarian when I'm out and about.

I'm not having my fast food freak outs anymore, and socially its a lot easier. I eliminated all coffee/soda a year ago, so that's good. I'm wondering what element I should try to eliminate next: dairy? I've stopped drinking milk, a biggie for m… Continue

Transitioning - Jeckyll and Hyde Syndrome (JHS)

First blog post, woo hoo!

So, long story short, I got into raw foods after completing a 9-day fast/cleanse at a resort called The Sanctuary on an island in Thailand this past January (buy your plane tickets now, it is unreal). While I was there I did yoga everyday, a spa treatment everyday, coffee colonic everyday, and spent my free time reading from their holistic nutrition library, while sipping young coconut joice and lazing on the beach. Pretty perfect. And it changed my life.

Here comes t… Continue

You're suppose to be able to pick the leaf out of the middle - and it comes out realllllllll easy - if it's ripe. It should smell ripe too.

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...

Yes, I believe two out of the four pineapples I've had the last several months have been alright with me, after having let them "ripen" for some days. The one that turned out the best was one I stored in a bag of ripening bananas. I did the same t...
