About Me:
Valine, 29, was a cooked pescetarian for 10 months before getting into raw and was 100% raw for 3 months before having a following 4 months sketchy, rocky rawness. I just have to keep coming back. Success is falling down 9 times and getting up 10 someone said. I'm trying not to kill myself over the integrity of the percentage of raw in my diet as I think as long as I feel good and am aware of what I am doing, then this is all part of my journey and my health has never been better.

I would like to be in this for the long-run so I'm having fun discovering what works for me and what doesn't. I'm open to whatever I feel gives me optimum health, whether that be raw/vegan/high raw/100% raw - I'm reading, learning and keeping my options open and subject to change. What I am loving though is seeing more raw-related things appear in the mainstream media. I don't think its going to be long before the friends who looked at me weird for eating raw chocolate mousse will be begging me for the recipe!!!

I absolutely love the feeling of being high Raw - its been a real epiphany for me - no cravings? no mood swings? loads of energy?? Feel the best I have ever felt and am looking forward to making this part of my life forever. It has been difficult and challenging but then all good things in life are worth the effort. Just bear with me.
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
Support. When I use the boards and keep in contact with all the beautiful shiny people I believe what I am doing is amazing and totally what I deserve and what everyone would want to strive for if they knew how good it felt but when I am absent from the boards I feel a bit judged and like I'm a crazy person for wanting to eat raw.

Hey V!

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you - busy busy busy!

Didn't get to the second lecture, which is a shame - I'm sure it would have been great. I just find Brian very inspirational in terms of getting your health back through proper nutrition, and having heard so many testimonies first hand of how the diet he suggests has transformed lives even the most cynical person would have to admit that he has to be on to something.

Very impressed with the exercise. I need to do more - I've slacked off going to the gym in recent months but I intend to put that right again soon. I wish I could run for 50 minutes - too many years of smoking have meant that my lungs aren't quite up to that yet! I'm sure if I pulled my finger out and did more running, mind you, that that would have an effect...

The flat sounds cool. I would never have guessed that you were excited about it! Good that you've a raw-friendly mate there too.

Off to a raw potluck in Walthamstow tomorrow, and maybe to the Eco-fair in Brick Lane at sometime over the weekend. I also really should get some Christmas cards sorted out - really disorganised this year!

Take care,
AJ

Hey Valine!

I've heard that Dave Grohl comparison a few times now, and I have to agree he's almost as good looking as me! :o)

The talk by Brian Clements last night was fantastic, and well worth the admission fee. It started a bit later than scheduled but that gave people a chance to get some of the delicious food that was available (though you still had to pay for it). I'm actually eating a bit of raw chocolate cake as I type this; well, I had to bring home some kind of souvenir!

It was a pretty no-holds-barred talk, which is pretty typical of Brian's style, and he highlighted the horrific effect that diet is having on the world's health. What was quite scary was that in terms of diabetes the UK is now beginning to overtake the US in terms of adult onset diabetes in the under 16s; he joked that the US used to be the one to invent disease but the UK had broken that monopoly.

He fielded loads of questions on individual cases and on some of the dietary regimes that are out there. I tend to hold a lot of store by what he says for the simple reason that as well as being actively involved in research he works with a lot of people and sees the amazing effects of what he teaches on the health of the people that attend the Hippocrates Health Institute, and having been there and met a few of them myself I know just how much it has transformed the lives of so many people.

It's a shame you're not going to be able to go to the one tonight, 'cos I'm sure you'd have enjoyed it.

Good luck with the flat viewing. Anywhere nice?

Take care
AJ

Hey Valine! Thanks for your post on my blog and it's fabulous to see you back. I'll be keeping an eye our for that little back-seat driver photo!

Can't believe it's December already - where did 2008 go?

The internet's wonderful, but I just don't have the time to keep up a profile on all the pages that I used to. I had a myspace page and a facebook page, but not enough hours in the day to tweak them, so they went pretty quickly. Plus, of course, it's not terribly exciting for most people to read what raw thing I've eaten today or what mood I'm in. All I really have time for is this place and a music-based forum of which I've been a member for years. The Inland Revenue, HMRC and work account for the rest of the time I spend in front of the computer (which is already too much).

That said, things are far less stressful, so I'm no longer dreaming of all the nasty habits in which I used to indulge to make me feel better. Thankfully, despite a couple of REALLY stressful days I never really had the urge to have a ciggie either, which used to be my comforter of choice - not had one now for well over a year and I intend to keep it that way for the rest of my life.

Off to see Brian tonight at the Fresh Network event in Euston, which should be fun (and an excuse to eat some raw cake!). May even get to the one at CNM tomorrow - will see how it goes.

Anyway, lovely to see you back, and hopefully I'll bump into you soon, and feel free to drop me a line if you need a bit of moral support. In the meantime, if you want to avoid negative press, try here.

ReAwakening

Good Morning! I just thought I would post to say hello to everyone, as I am coming back after a long haul of taking care of others who were in very bad straights, which in turn put me in very bad straights too.  I am back to being me now, and pursing the life I have wanted and missed for so long.  I am growing my holistics and massage practice in Coppell, TX, healing myself, and thriving! It looks like many of the folks I knew when I first truly embraced raw veganism are not around.  I was…See More
