I think the breaking point or schism which created modern food consciousness may in fact be the practice of shoving of food into other food. Think of the equal and opposite reaction to "fried Coke"

Geez, what was I thinking? Thanks, Ms. Upton, for showing me the way. Now, if you'll all excuse me, a bag of peanut butter-filled pretzels and a bottle of Mountain Dew await me.

Another example of mainstream media Health and Fitness advice bullshit: http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/02/09/irpt.6pack.diet/index.html

I don't think it is possible and i wouldn't want it to. All I am saying it corporate power gets respect from other forms of corporate power. like Atkins or South Beach getting respect from mainstream media-- until those diets starts killing people...

About Me:
Hi, I'm 23 years old, I've been vegan since mid-june 2007, and now I am starting a raw vegan lifestyle!! I'm so excited to be here and record my journey into raw foodism!! While vegan, I grew into better health, but unfortunately I didn't realize how much of my food is cooked! I will edit in more a bit later :)
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
Raw food really is the answer in regards to diet. With that said, there's a lot of obstacles that get in the way of an aspiring raw fooder. I dropped the bandwagon a while back and I think I realized I was pushing myself too ambitiously to get raw. I lost focus on the enjoyment of raw food. I think a person should emphasize to just *enjoy* eating as much raw food as they want, and the kinds of the food that they like. Do not worry about going "100% overnight". A raw food detox can be very real and very strange at first. There's much more to that, but I will stop here for now.

Diarrhea brings out changes

It's been several months, and I have some observations to share:

- Back in January I was completely raw for a few days, and mostly raw for a week or two. I dropped several pounds in those few days, which was starting to even freak me out how fast it was! I felt great, and was looking better.

- I got off the raw bandwagon gradually. First, I didn't realize that greens have alkaloids and that rotation was necessary (Thank you Victoria Boutenko for teaching me this!). I kept eati… Continue

From 205 to 203, in ONE day.

I'm down from 205... to 203.

Lost nearly 2 lbs in one day.

I was still worried about not having enough food, enough calories, etc. Hopefully that isn't an issue, really. I am intuiting a lot of my food intake instead of being fully informed about the proper way a raw foodist gets their protein and nutrition without too much fat, too much fruit sugar, etc.

I made a green smoothie today~, one with a lot of turnip greens, and mustard greens. I was surprised to see how… Continue

Some detox symptoms I've experienced today:

- having a slightly hard time breathing
- anxiety
- some spiritual sensations of feeling numb, not in my own body, eyes dilating
- other things that I've temporarily forgotten about :P

(the first few days, I've remembered experiencing aches in my limbs, aches in my back, my head. a "Feeling" from my stomach that psychologically wanted a heavier cooked meal, because it wasn't used to the raw meal).

These things seem to be temporary, and are a reminder of some of the… Continue

My first green smoothie

It wasn't so bad.. but it's been bad. XD

The taste was alright. But it was an awful lot of fiber and roughage to drink through, even if it was shredded as long and as fine as it could be.

I put one pear, a handful of grapes, 6 big leaves of kale in, and half a stalk of celery. Nothing was frozen.. it was like a watery sweet soup.

It took so long to down it. And I know I haven't eaten enough today.

This doesn't mean that I'm giving up.

I'm still wo… Continue

Being raw means getting out of bed easier in the morning.

When I woke up today, I felt like I could bounce out of bed. Even while veganism gave me more energy than an omnivore diet, I still felt glued to the bed after first waking up in the morning.

I also felt an increased sex drive. Funny as it sounds, but it's a kind of clarity, rather than a "drive" kind of thing.

As I am eating some cooked leftovers, though, I notice that I'm getting a slight headache, and that my mind is starting to feel fuzzier. I'm also experiencing some hea… Continue
