Do not fall into the protein myth. Your body needs amino acids, not protein. Amino acids are everywhere in every fruit and vegetable. Make sure you eat a good variety and quantity every day, add some nuts, seeds, avocados and coconut, and you shou...

If you're concerned about your thyroid, brazil nuts, kelp, maca and radishes are all helpful. Avoiding cruciferous vegetables is also useful. There is a complete list of cruciferous veggies here. The exception is radishes, which are a crucifer tha...

I haven't been worrying about protein because I've seem to not have a problem of "missing" it from my primarily fruit diet... If you're concerned with protein I would personally recommend HEMP!!! It's one of the most easily digestible nuts/seeds t...

About Me:
I am a vital part of the Mangold5. I am trying to live simply and naturally as much as possible. I am somewhat of a sensitive person, so raw foods seem to match my personality well. I am independent, an artist, a country/beach girl, athletic, nature lover, and I am very passionate about health and raw food. I was diagnosed with cancer 6 years ago, and instead of having as radical hysterectomy, which I was told to do the next week, I dissented and got proactive, and I went 100% raw vegan. This wasn't my own idea. Someone planted the seed in my mind that raw food could help me, and away I went on a journey towards health, juicing and figuring it all out. I only knew one person at the time who was raw, so it was totally up to me to do it. There were a few websites and books at the time, but not like today! So I started eating raw, so I would not die. Trust me, it was hard in the beginning, especially when everyone in my life was frightened for me, and had never heard of raw food healing. I think I started to confuse people because I became so vibrant, yet they called me "sick with cancer." Not a single cancer sell was discovered 6 weeks later in a biopsy (which I didn't want to have but now I have proof that raw food is healing). I had 2 types of cancer at the time, and neither have ever returned. And I had 2 healthy pregnancies after the whole scare. I believe that God has a purpose for me to help others through teaching. So I am still researching and now I am writing a book on raw and sustainability. I am also starting a personal raw chef business in Kaua'i, and plan to support my family and bless others with raw food.

kids and raw food

Although I predominantly eat a raw diet, my kids have not made that choice yet. It is ok, I will not force anything on them. But I have been experimenting in the kitchen a lot and they get to sample the things I make. I know a recipe is successful when my kids like it. I have 3 kids, Asher, Jesse, and Seth. What is interesting is that one of them might love a recipe while another dislikes it. Chocolate shakes are popular with all 3, but not all green smoothies pass the test.
Today Jesse, who is… Continue

Hey Sarah. Measure nutrients/calories is easy. Download cronometer (google it, it's free) and put in what you eat in a day. It'll tell you your calorie intake, your caloronutrient ratios (what % of your calories you get from carbs, fat, protein), vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids.

I follow the 80/10/10 Diet to make sure my body gets what it needs. I feel really fantastic eating tons of fruit. I haven't worried about 'protein' in a long time, and I've been putting on a lot of muscle in the last few weeks from more intensive flow yoga + rock climbing at the gym. If I wasn't getting enough protein, it would be impossible for my body to rebuild muscle fibers and enlarge them.

Hey Sarah, thanks for replying back and sorry I haven't gotten back to you for so long! I definitely think greens are awesome and they are the right food for me. Fruit seems to be bad for me. I get too hyper (and anxious) as I am sensitive. Did you find a solution to your possible low protein problem? I am going to be adding spirulina soon to my diet. Aloha! <--- (first time I typed that out hehe :-) )

Dear Sarah,
thank you for the friend request.
I eat all fruit, except for 'wet' new season nuts nuts maybe twice a year.
I do need to eat great quality fruit though. I think this is vital if one lives on a fruit diet.
You have some beautiful photos on your page.
Have a great day ♥

Dear Sarah,
I am honoured with your request to be your friend, which I have gratefully accepted. I love the fact, that right now I am facing many challenges in my proffessional life, feel that it is time to make some radical changes/choices, and yet I am the main bread winner (my husband is at home wiht our kids!). I am looking into the sustinability of this set up and have loads of ideas, but lack support. So your request and message have fallen into the fertile ground! I would love to chat soon - are you on skype? And I can't wait to read your book - raw and permaculture.sustinable living are my huge passions. Hope you are having a lovely, loving day. Blessings, Katya

Hi Sarah, great to "meet" you.. I have just started eating raw, and am enjoying it! I'm so glad you introduced yourself, you are my sister !!! Ahhhh, and being with Jesus, is a wild and fun adventure. It gets better all the time.
I've ordered an excalibur food dehydrator, and am excited about making alot of receipes. I've been eating healthy for years now, but raw is going to be the very best. I'm so happy for you, that you are cancer free... praise God!! He is so good. I have 4 "kids"... all adults now, Jeremy 32, Isaac 30, Anna 26 and Mary 20. I am in the second half of my life, and it's pretty dang exciting! thanks again for saying hi..!!!

Hi Sarah,
OMG indeed!!!!!!!!!! I dream of the days of raw pizza and fudge from Blossoming Lotus... Well. Today I was so determined I spent a bit of a fortune at Vim N Vigor in order to have a decent raw meal and enjoy massive baby lettuce and some that sprouted spicy garbanzo hummus pate as well as stock up on a few important things so I won't stray. Well, I just got offered a raw chef position at a new retreat hotel restaurant opening in September back east near my old home town where my parents and brothers live. . . but the lifestyle on Kauai is so much more healthy for me I do not think I can make the move, even for this.
I would love to form a group of people who want to manifest a really raw cafe here on Kauai. Let's give it some thought. I am happy to see some raw activity at Vim N Vigor and since returning have not visited Papayas or Healthy Hut since staying west side but by this week end will be east then north.
Aloha, Molly

Hey there! I like to put the dry nut pulp back into the blend and make a powder out of it. Then I'll put it into the freezer to keep. I bet hawaii is amazing right now! :)
