I'm sure it's great but it looks so gross..lol!

Has anyone tried this? It sounds and looks really good, but I'm wondering how strong of a banana flavor it has (husdand doesn't like bananas).
September 18
Looks good! And dead easy, too (I'm really starting to like that about raw foods).
September 14
Yes Excellent recipe!

This sounds fabulous. I'm topping this thread because I can across this when looking for coconut oil recipes. Malai Kofta used to be my favorite Indian dish. And bonus because I am always looking for recipes that utilize turmeric.

About Me:

I've been studing Computer Science in UC San Diego for the last two years, and I'll be graduating in 2010. I became a raw foodist in June of 06 after spending two weeks traveling through Europe. I was with a tour group, which forced me to eat lots of meats and white breads. Needless to say, by the end of the trip I felt horrible. When I got back home, I decided to try a raw food diet after having heard about it from several people at the local farmers market. After just about a week I could feel some dramatic changes in my body, and have stuck with it ever since.

Experiencing the effects of a raw food diet (a diet which was condemned by my physician), I began to question many of the ideas and ideals I had been taught in school, and found myself learning more about myself and the world than I ever imagined. Soon I found myself trying all sorts of new things.

For the last two years I've been practicing yoga, and attended a two week intensive course at an ashram in India during the summer of 08. Yoga has taught me as much about my body as becoming a raw foodist. Its one of the practices in my life that I enjoy the most and I really recommend it for anyone who's interested. I’ve also just started producing a series of videos and posts on pranayama (one of the eight limbs of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga). You can check them out here and here. Or head over to the Roshi’s YouTube page.

I've also gotten really into rock climbing. There are several place to climb near UCSD and you'll usually find me at one of them each weekend with at least one of my roommates. We all got into it together and after a year we still can't get enough. You can check out some pictures of our adventures here.

Lastly, as an effort to spread some of the knowledge I've learned across my campus, I joined the UCSD Food Co-op. We're a homely little store smack dab in the center of the UCSD campus serving all vegetarian, vegan, and mostly organic food. We've got the greatest salad bar you could imagine, for the awesome price of just $5/lb. If you're ever in town come by, and ask for me. I usually whip up some raw food goodies to sell in the store, so be sure to pick something up if you're there.

New Documentary on Corporate food and the Dangers of GM

As I learn more and more about the food system in the United States, the more I become afraid of it. Doing research for a paper recently, I found out that about 70% of all packaged foods sold in America have at least some genetically engineered components. For those of you unfamiliar with GM (genetically modified) crops, they are crops that have been altered at the DNA level to have some “desirable” trait. These crops have been banned in several countries such as Japan, Norway, Germany, and Spai… Continue

Relaunching of Roshi's Online Store

Our first launch of the Roshi’s Online Store was pretty sub-par, since we only had one item. After lots of work, however, we’ve been able to get some good contacts and sources to relaunch our store with lots of goodies. You’ll now see in our sidebar (on our website) a list of a few of the items being sold in our store. We have lots of spiceContinue

Thank you.

I believe my friends are also afraid of the fact that not every place will offer them
good care and are trying to get more opinions.

I think one of the options they are considering is swami Ramdev's Patanjali center:
http://www.divyayoga.com/main.htm

But, yes, they don't know anyone who has treated themselves there.

Hi Rishi,
how have you been?
Just a thought...I was wondering whether you would be able to advise.
I have my friends whose mother wants to go to India for medical treatment,
but they don't really know who to approach there or where to go.
May be you would know a good place where they can provide a good holistic treatment. They are also from India, but it has been many years since they lived there...

I am glad you are defending those who eat meat, otherwise we wouldn't be having such a wonderful conversation.
It is very hard to write on the topics we are trying to touch, without leaving a lot of misunderstanding behind.
I don't believe in one path being more right than another too, but I do choose to defend the animals and not those who eat them :-)
We are free to chose what is right for us and I am no one to judge the choices we make.
I was only trying to say, that what we choose for ourselves, creates our realities.

Hi Rishi,
Looking forward to connecting around Yoga, Spirituality and trying some of your Indian style Raw Recipes!!! I am interested in merging Ayurveda with Raw somehow. Have you any thoughts on this?

I always thought that the Vedas are not a religion, they are about spirituality and resource from spirituality itself.
This is what makes them different from the rest of the religious books, like the Bible, Koran...the message in them unites on the basis of spirituality, you don't need a medium between yourself and God, you can directly connect to God (the cosmic Spirit, the Goddess, nature, whatever you like to call it) through meditation, for example.

Rishi,
I don't believe you...Or, better said, I don't want to believe you :-)
Actually, I cannot have an opinion on this matter, because I haven't read enough,
some parts of the Upanishads, but this is not enough to form an opinion.
But, somehow it doesn't fit with my perceptions even at this stage, where I am right now.

By the way, I tried making "Kulfi", from your recipe, and my friends loved it, me too.
I was so pleasantly surprised that the chocolate mixture was sticking so well to the bananas.
The only thing I did differently, was to add cardamom powder for extra flavour and I used raw
carob powder instead of cocoa.
Here is a photo I took...I wish you could have some too...
It was a pure enjoyment...

hey, i'm just jumping into this conversation (sorry for eavesdropping!) but i don't think it matters much what the vedas says about meat eating. it is not a perfect scripture...nothing is, and yoga has been detached form hinduism over the years and now is a science in its own right.

i think of vegeterianism, veganism, and raw foodism as advents in human technology. we know now through emperical evidence that they are superior diets for mental and spiritual clarity. the world is becoming more sophisticated with every passing generation, and we are smarter than the writers of the rig veda, the upanisads, etc. we know more than they did, and we are able to apply our technology (vegtarianism, etc.) to theirs (yoga) to improve on the work that they did.
