My body looses muscle on vegan protein (and I was getting plenty. 40+ grams/day)- I quickly gained it back eating eggs and some fish. I do think that not everyone's body treats all protein as equal. Mine sure doesn't.

Oh thats awesome, I didnt know they could test that. What type of test is it? Ya I would think vegan proteins would work the same if your getting enough and plus animal protein is acidic so it would actually affect your body in a negative way when...

That's what metabolic typing is about, it tests your metabolic type, protein, carbs or mixed. After the testing you receive a complete individual diet plan, what foods you should eat and what not, but they do say that if you are a vegetarian, but c...

It would be cool if there was a test you could have done that tells you exactly what amount of protein, carbs and fat your body needs per day to function its best. Instead of everyone guessing.

i was hoping this was about burning calories whilst sitting on the internet all day.

Hello Monika,
You love poipoi! Wow! I lived in Hawaii 1/3 of my life and never got used to it.
For simple and fun recipes Google Russell James the Raw Chef. He offers so many great yummy recipes.

thanks so much Monika. i think i will try the ginger too and hope that i don't get too worn out on it. I have been raw for a little over a year and i actually just got done with doing a series of 3 colonics. do you think i will still benefit from the blessed herbs cleanse? while i do feel like the colonics helped, there was definitely nothing like those terrifying pictures on the blessed herbs website lol

hey monika- thanks so much for responding to the post about the blessed herbs cleanse. just a quick question that i forgot to ask over there- what flavor did you use? i was warned that the ginger is extremely strong and i usually hate peppermint so i thought i would get a second opinion! thanks in advance!

oh, and there are so far sadly no raw-food restaurants yet, but it's only a matter of time...There is one place called Sage Organics which has a raw wednesday:)

Nice to meet you.

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a dental technician in Jersey and I've been vegetarian since march '08 and exploring raw veganism since october '08. So far I'm loving it!!
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
I could do with some moral support and advice, because I don't know any raw foodists on the island. I feel a bit like the odd one out. At first people thought I was really weird talking about raw foods, but now they see how good and healthy and energetic I look. I might change many people and build up a community here through example.
Relationship Status:
Single
Favorite Raw Food or Recipe?
still experimenting, I bought a Vita-Mix and a dehydrator, so might be able to come up with a favourite recipe soon...
Interests (outside of Raw Food):
kayaking, poipoi, african percussion, camping, walking, travelling

Metabolic Typing

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on Metabolic Typing? I'm wondering whether metabloic typing can be finetuned for raw foodists and whether protein types really need animal protein or whether vegan proteins, like hempseed and chia seeds and greens can be substituted for animal proteins?
Any thoughts will be welcome

Increased Sensitivity

After being raw for a period of time, we become cleaner and cleaner. Then one day we eat something "not so clean" and feel terrible. We have become sensitive to something we were able to eat without any strange reactions not that long ago.

I don't see this as a bad thing, it shows to me that I'm successfully eliminating toxins from my body. And, in a moment of weakness, if I do eat something cooked, it quickly reminds me that I should rather stick to raw! I had a chat with my mother the other d… Continue

Benefits of Kefir

I have at numerous oocasions read about the wonderful benefits of Kefir. I would like to include this into my diet if it so beneficial, especially to the gut, but I have now given up diary products. Are the diary products used in kefir still harmful, or does the benefits of kefir outweigh the hamful aspects of kefir? A friend of mine from Germany once visited me and had a Japanese water kefir, where you ferment the kefir crystals in water and a lot of white sugar. I loved the priciple of it and… Continue

Raw foods in Paris

I'm visiting Paris in May for a few days and was wondering if anyone knows of any raw food / vegan / vegetarian restaurants in Paris. And where do I find the organic markets? I hear Paris has fantastic markets. Also, I'm very into World Music, especially African music, Are there any cafes that have preferably live African musicians performing? I tried to look on the internet, but since this isn't mainstream, there are no english websites, that I have found so far.

Reaction to cooked foods

I have been experienceing something really interesting. I've had 5 weeks without alcohol and very high raw vegan diet. Last night I went out with a few friends, and had a chickpea soup, some home-made bread and 2 glasses of wine over a period of about 3 hours. When I went to bed I noticed that my pulse was very fast. Normally on raw it's about 58 bpm and last night it was 78! What causes that? When I have the odd cooked meal at home, made with fresh organic veggies, this doesn't happen. Normally… Continue

Soaking might help, I really don't know for sure. My father eats soaked dried chestnuts. The dried ones are really hard and they get a little bit softer when soaking them, but they are'nt as sweet soaked.

Would soaking them help? I've read that nuts in general has alot of anti-nutrients & soaking is always suggested.
