Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a homeschooling mom of 6,diabetic,seeking a better way to eat, live and be. I've been eating fresh fruit for breakfast and salads for lunch. I wish I could get my children and husband to join me more.
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
Support me best by: being my friends. I really need "simple" ways to fix what is locally grown. (I'm in South Carolina) I'm not fond of much in the "green" family. So far, Romaine lettuce, bell peppers, cucumbers and zuchini are the only green I like to munch "straight" I don't mind kale in a smoothie with fruit. I can't get through the taste of "bitter" in the other greens... though I love to see them growing in the yard.
Relationship Status:
Married
Favorite Raw Food or Recipe?
So far fruit Salads and I love Brocolli Salad!
Interests (outside of Raw Food):
Anything homeschooling/teaching kiddos:) I enjoy sewing.... would love to go camping with my kids eventually.
Favorite Books or Authors:
I havent chosen any yet.
Favorite Quote:
hmm..Today is a new day;use it with joy.
GI2MR Oath: I promise to do my best to keep this community drama free. I will not name call or throw around personal attacks. I pledge to be respectful even if I do not agree with another member's opinion. When possible, I'll try to smile : )
Yes! I accept the GI2MR Oath.

grin:) hello Druhmil:)

Thankyou for that video.
I'm at a point where I need to start doing 'something." I know raw is the way to go. almost a year has gone by since I became a member here. I slid totally away from raw. I'm trying to add more into my life again.
I think for me... I need to find a very simple way to start and just keep a small supply of yummy raw in the house for me. Then, if anyone else joins me.. I'll just replace as I can afford it. sigh.......... for now unemployment is hitting hard.

Gardening time.... I need some help.

Ok I have a few wants. Stephen is deploying toward the end of Feb and I could use some help getting my garden started. So, I'm wishing for someone to come along and assist in getting the ground ready and planting.
Would there happen to be anyone near me that would like to work and share the harvest? I promise lots of
kids to amuse and assist in whatever we're working on:)
We're about 45 minutes from Charleston,30 minutes from Summerville and 8 minutes from Moncks Corner, SC.
Any takes?

Nothing like encouragement to get going:)

Just as a fresh start my bloodsugars numbers are not nice first thing in the morning. Ranging around 190 to 170. Today was 187. Lunch was awesome! 113 and dinner tonight was 123. (though I did spike at my two hour mark up to 198.) Just knowing that I have friends out here cheering me on it awesome. Knowing that I can be accountable and still be human with mistakes or little set backs is ok. I know that as I keep on pushing this I can again achieve better health . This time, I want to not slide b… Continue

Waking up from a deep sleep of some kind.... I need some major help.

Well, that is how I feel. I slept too long. I'm groggy, bloated, grouchy, maybe a bit depressed about my state of being. Here I am. Somehow, like any good thoughtful person, I know what is right and now am in the debate of my mind as to how to proceed. I'm tired of being tired etc.....
It's time to move from knowing what to do, to doing it. I know that I will get absolutely no support from within my home. Yet, here is where I am meant to be. I need to bring health to me. I need to do it in the mo… Continue

RAW vs SAD issues at home.

Just want some advice. How do others plan meals for the week around SAD and RAW without overspending or having food go bad? Our budget for the house and groceries is so in trouble right now. We cannot afford to waste/have anything go unused.
I'm feeling so stressed about this whole thing. The kids and I are enjoying smoothies for breakfast during the week. On the weekends, control goes to SAD. Then, foods that would have been used on the weekend are beyond eating on Monday. :( Then our littl… Continue

Numbers....

Today I woke up to 156. A green smoothie and 4 hours later:) 122. For lunch I"m having carrots, cucumber slices and chickpea/mushroom/onion as a dip. We'll see how that goes.
The kids all took a taste and went back to PB&J sandwiches. still they are crunching on carrots:)

Hi Meadowlark!
It sounds like we have a bit in common. I am homeschooling 4 kids. My oldest boy is on the autistic spectrum, but his symptoms are so mild that people mistake it for being sullen and difficult :( I'm so sorry to hear about the trouble you have had. My heart goes out to you.
I'm so impressed with the photos of your kids enjoying green smoothies!
Lots of love to you!

Hi Meadow Lark,
I have some thoughts on diabetes and eating raw if you're interested.

Also, I think if I can help myself it will make it easier to help my sons.

Well, at least you have found a way to make your life healthier, just think how many people never experience that or have not yet. Hang in there. What special needs do your kids have? My one son is dyslexic, but is taking very advanced courses at University, and my other son has very severe nearsightedness. I know that they could both get more health from raw, but they are adults now, one lives in NY, I was not as consistent with raw as I wish, when they were growing up either. It is not easy with the rest of the world, the way it is. I joined a support group on here, I don't know if you are in it? It is called- living raw in a cooked world or something?

We should start a homeschool group. We are home-schooling our 4. How old are your kids?

Our favorite read these days: anything by John Taylor Gatto.

Hi MeadowLark, thank you for your friendship, I am glad you would like to chat with me. My mom is diabetic, and her dad was, also, I have had problems with my blood sugar levels, both hypo, and hyperglycemia. Are you familiar with Gabriel Cousins, MD and his diabetic studies?

It sure sounds like you have you hands full! My dad lives in South Carolina! He just moved back there a few months ago from Tennessee. Diabetis runs on the maternal side of my family, so I figure being raw can only help! I'm 48, so it's time for me to start thinking about these things(darnit!) Anyway, 7 kids-wow! I always wanted 10, but settled for 3. Now I have 2 small grandsons-4&6. Nice to meet you and look forward to talking!
