spf 50 is only 5% more uv ray blocking than spf 15. I don't recommend the use of sunscreen. The best sun protection is clothing and avoiding being out in it all day until you have a solid tan built up. If you are going to use anything then use Kab...

fact. the best way to protect your exposed skin is your diet. I have read a study they did a long time ago about algea supplements that protect against the sun. This was a long time ago. And even i have noticed i don't burn as easy.

Lizz- alot of this sounds like detox to me. And when we are in detox mode it might be better to go lighter with the running, give your body time to-recharge. What was your diet before you went raw?

protein? not feeling good on raw anymore

It's been a few month this raw food journey. The last time I was 100% raw, I felt amazing after about a month. I was "glowing" and everyone noticed. This time, it is very different. I actually feel worse. People are telling me I look tired, and I feel tired. I feel tired and have not felt good for about a month. I work out a lot. I run 6 to 10 miles a day, trail running up and down in the mountains. I surf or swim, go to yoga and skateboard. I work a lot too. I am always on the go. Maybe take on… Continue

Hippy Shit

Why is it that whenever I reveal I am a raw vegan (which is not often) people criticize it as being some "hippy shit." Why do hippies have such a bad name? and what the hell is the definition of a hippy anyway? And why is being healthy and environmentally conscious labeled as being "hippy shit"?

Hi Lizzard!
Could you recommend a great spot for beginners surfing on the North Shore? Ive lived here for a year and a half and have a board but Ive had no car for transport..until now! I have a 7 footer and have little experience. Since I live in Mililani I would like to find a good spot that isnt too far from where I live. I know Waikiki is good for beginners but Id rather not drive that far, and I know North Shore is much calmer this time of year. Ive heard that Haleiwa Beach is good...if you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it: )
Have you lived here your whole life?

Well today, I (all of this was done at the gym) swam for 45 mins alternating breast stroke and freestyle, then I biked for 45 mins and then ran for 45 mins.
Normal workout is run to the gym (3 mi) swim for 30 mins then run back (3 mi) or bike to the gym swim then bike back. Yes the VITAMIX is crazy expensive.

Lizzard,
Awesome pictures. That is so cool that you skate and surf. I spent probably 7 years skating. Do you have any vids, I;ll show you some of mine if you show me some of yours....
How long have you lived in HI?
My mom is actually thinking of moving out there, she is trying to decide which island.
I saw a wild foraging book for hawaii online somewhere, I have still been looking for it, but when I find it I will send the link.
Have you ever hiked the 11mile trail? the secret valley hint hint. I;ve been wanting to do it someday soon.
Anyway,
Have the most pranic week ever

I understand about the nuts. I'm trying to incorporate nut milks in my diet, but as soon as they hit my stomach, it turns into a knot. I can't say I have any advice for you except that it seems like you'd need somewhere in the area of 3,000 calories a day with your activity level, and you're probably eating 1,500.
I've been about 80% raw for 10 months now, and I'm not exactly thriving myself. I think the issue is my intestines - absorption problems. So, I'm doing a water fast to give my body time to repair itself without having to waste energy digesting.
