hmmm Burdock?? Am I missing something?

A new friend, Mish, shared this with another new friend...(hey everybody is a new friend here...deal with it) Burdock?? Is this a food I am totally missing? We use it for medicinal tea purposes but in a smoothie??? Anyone else have recipes? And where the heck would I find it in Maryland?

Her Recipe:
The burdock I like best with a little sweet like orange juiced with many mixed greens, but not too much on the bitter side. Something mellow-ish:
1-2 orange, romaine, cilantro, parsley, dandelion, s… Continue

Yay for sprouting! Yes, green smoothies! Great in green juices! I love to put them in nori rolls, on top of raw crackers with a little seed pate and maybe a little kraut, a little bunch in a bowl of soup is nice...I eat them as a snack with some other veggies...on top of a piece of celery or cucumber with hemp seed butter- I guess there are many possibilities! I'm sorry I missed you too. I ended up being in town for 3 days only before heading south. Enjoy the sprouts!

I would use them like greens, add enough fruits to make them tasty. If not have you tried flavouring them and then dehydrating them. If not you could freeze them,

Hi Kristen,
Sprouts can be hard core in flavor. So, using extra citrus is lovely and/or sweet (mango, banana, etc).

I also like eating sprouts straight, sometimes dressed with a dash of Himalayan crystal salt and a squeeze of fresh organic lemon/lime/orange - whatever you have on hand.

I use them in green soups.

I juice them, too!

Cheers :)

Hi Kristen. hmmm, maca...I mostly use it in smoothies and chocolates. I'm not sure where to get it in Balto. The best maca I've had is from vivapura.net. Check them out- they have a lot of really good quality superfoods, particularly the bee pollen, cacao paste, and the maca :)

I'm on a road trip right now moving my friend back to Baltimore. Maybe we can meet up when I am there- somwhere around Jan 15-24.

I am more of an intuitive "cook" For miso soup Just add a couple tablespoons to heated up water. If you have a cooking thermometer that is best. If you have the water on low that is good but a trick I do is to put the bowl in the oven on low and then pull it out and put the broth in it. I have different toppings ready like red pepper cilantro sesame seeds, marinated burdock, avocado cubes, etc. Before serving use a wisk to combine the miso and water. Add a little rice wine vinegar and sesame oil to taste. I love cayenne and seaweed in mine. It's nice to have the pot right on the table with the toppings all around it. If serving for guests have the pot on top of another pot of boiling water- like a double boiler but it will keep the soup warm longer. Have fun!!
