OK make sure you do the dingle peninsula too. its not on the ring, its the peninsula above it, but its amazing. kind of like the ring of kerry compacted into a 25 mile loop. islands cliffs etc. amazing. i just went to learn about foraging from this guy down in the ring so i can show you wild plants to eat and stuff, lol. actually, if youre really into that kind of thing, the guy is in Sneem, which is on the ring, and i might be able to put you in touch and maybe he would let you stop by if you wanted to go learn a little :) ok i just found out the guy i borrowed my internet antennae from for the last 6 months is coming in a few minutes to pick it up...so might not be on for a while until i drag my computer into town to use someones wireless (live 7 miles from town). bye!

haha i just realized my whole post probably sounds so bitter :) sorry i kind of got off on a rant :) its just so maddening to live somewhere so beautiful with so much potential and see people destroying all the natural resources :(

hahah-yeah ive "been" the the united states--im american ;p but youre right. thats what keeps drawing me back to where i am--dingle--is the ocean and the cleanness etc and it feels really good. ive needed to finish my thesis then recover from the last 6 years of grad school (that was supposed to take 3) , and i cant even tell you what a difference it makes living in such a beautiful place. i live in a rundown caravan in a farmers driveway overlooking the beach about a quarter mile away, with the cliffs and the atlantic in the distance. people keep trying to get me to move to town, because socially it SUCKS out here, but i have no desire to live in town. BUT, that said, BECAUSE its so clean, the air and everything, its even more maddening to have people being destructive to the cleanness and beauty--loads of people burn their trash instead of recycling, even though burning is illegal. my landlord burns trash from the other trailer, his house, his nephews, and even the neighbors bring their trash for him to burn. its so maddening because it literally makes me sick when he does it--plastic glass tin whatever. everything. and hes not the only one. i followed these guys along one day who were doing "beach cleanup" i.e. collecting trash and setting it on fire. plastic buckets, plastic rope, etc. they just dont GET it. they think if you burn it it "disappears" because you cant see it anymore! and then they wonder why the cancer rates here are so high! HELLO! i followed them along kicking sand over their fires. then i confronted them. it was ineffective. and---BACK TO YOUR BLOG POINT AGAIN, lol: they said "yeah but we're cleaning up the trash--if those ropes get caught in the fishing boats, people could die because their boat will shipwreck....." MY INTERNAL RESPONSE? WELL, MAYBE THEY SHOULDNT BE OUT THERE FISHING THEN ANYWAY!! (sorry, rant again ;p this stuff just gets me SO mad and theres not really any solidarity here :) ) likewise, theres ALL these resources like seaweed and all sorts of edible plants, but you have to have to worry about contamination from all the stupid fishing boats and the runoff from all the stupid chemicals farmers put in their fields to "grow" the sheep. ACK!

wow--so funny that you had a different experience of the food here...i dont know WHERE you were, but your example of the capri sun???!! ive never seen THAT, ive actually seen that they add SACCHARIN! to EVERYTHING. even to apple juice or blackcurrant juice! and then they call it "toothkind, sugar free". sure, itll save your teeth but poison your body. And the lack of varieity of fresh food here, at least where i live, is astounding. people are very loyal to the foods that have gotten them through the hard times, and so theres not alot of variety or openness. because things like kale are fed to cattle, some people feel its insulting to eat things like kale even though they know its nutritionally rich.. . and you cant get organic parsely or cilantro or anything like that in my town unless y ou grow it yourself. they import everything, even alot of stuff that could be easily grown here (cilantro from ISRAEL??!! ) so i think it has ALOT of potential...but there needs to be a conciousness-changing so that people start using the abundant natural resources that are here and grow away from animal agriculture. its starting, but it needs a kick in the butt! some people are going to help me organize and offer a raw foods course with a bit of foraging thrown in so im excited, but its hard.

BUT, that said, i DO realize full well what a gift this country is, or specifically the Dingle Peninsula, where I am living. i just wish others who live here would realize it and stop destroying and polluting it! ive been here for a year now, and three summers before that. i even drove all the way to seattle from DC one winter and after 4 months ended up turning aroudn and driving cross country so i could fly back here. dunno somethign keeps drawing me back :)

THIS MAKES ME SO SICK.

Introducing the Fuel-Efficient Cow

Big Belchers | Discovery News Video May 20, 2009 -- As new fuel efficiency standards for cars make news in the United States, scientists in Canada are already developing more fuel-efficient, and more polite, cattle.

The research promises to lower costs to farmers by reducing the amount of feed needed for raising cattle. It could also help the environment by reducing the number of methane released into the atmosphere, where it is a climate-warming greenhouse g… Continue

Every now and then I'll have a bit of white rice. Afterwards it gives me a headache! Does anyone have similar experiences and/or can you tell me why? Thanks!

raw babies?

So I was just sitting here drinking my green smoothie and thinking..."hey I wonder if you make one of these and then strain it through a nut milk bag and put it in a bottle... Would it be good for babies?" I don't have any kids but it's kind of interesting to think about! Let me know if you have tried it or have any cool raw baby sites! :)

Ok girls, give me what you've got on makeup!

I'm a hairstylist, so obviously I have to have my makeup done everyday for work. Since I eat so healthy I sometimes wonder if I'm putting toxic chemicals all over my face... Any suggestion? I currently wear jane iredale. Supposively all natural but who really knows. So what's the raw foodist makeup of choice? :)

what happens to your friends when you go raw?

Ive read and heard so many stories about people sort of migrating toward other people in this lifesyle..for obvious reasons, but can anyone share how they balance old relationships with a new life? Ive recently gone raw, and i often find it quite difficult to balance. It almost seems as though all i ever did was "go out to eat." I dont want to lose the relationships in my life, but my idea of fun has been radically changed since ive began my journey. Its as though i want to keep my loving relati… Continue

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...
