In Sweden we make something called råröra. Basically this is a fresh compote made of berries, and would be a good substitute for jelly. Just take a bowl of berries (blueberries, raspberries, currants, cherries, etc) and smash and stir them with a ...

I wonder what I have to do to live on raw food and not be in the grocery store every 4 days... Is that impossible? I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't have to take 2 busses to get to the closest organic fruits/veggie grocery s. and pull along a 4yr old while being pregnant...

Raw and pregnant NOT SO SAFE AND HEALTHY???...

I have done a ton of research, staying up really late last night looking into how I can sustain a mostly 100% raw life while being pregnant....
Not so sure I can do it now. I am feeling defeated. The "vegan society" has an informative website that opened my eyes to the diffiencies a body can go through while eating raw (if proper precautions are not taken) especially during a time when your body needs even MORE nutrients... like during pregnancy. (as well as web md and some other sites that I ca… Continue

HI Juianne! Don't worry about the weight gain. I gained 16 lbs with my first daughter and 26 lbs with the twins. I was all baby and was back into my pregnancy cloths only days after their births. Jana was 7 lbs 6oz. and the twins who were six weeks early were 4 lbs 9oz and 4 lbs 13oz. Had they made it through the last weeks there is no doubt that they would have reached 6 or 7 lbs easily. It is important to have a health practitioner that is aware of and supportive of your diet. A highly raw diet is ideal for most healthy pregnancies as it very high in nutrients and it is easy to get your requirements. Your baby will tell you when / what it needs if you pay close attention. If you are eating mostly raw and getting daily exercise then you will probably gain weight in short bursts. I would gain weight once a month like clock work! I found that for a few days a month I would get extremely hungry and enjoyed eating intensely! After those few days of gorging I would gain weight and then my cravings and weight would even out again for a few more weeks until the pattern repeated. As long as I was highly raw and stayed away from refined sugar and processed carbs I felt GREAT and gained weight slowly. For exercise I lifted weights to keep tone until about 7 months when I found this too exhausting. I stretched / or did yoga a few times / week going from more strenuous Yoga to easier stretching as my pregnancy progressed. I also did cardio every day. 4 or 5 days / week I went to the gym and got on the StairMaster or elliptical, I walked everywhere with my older daughter and made sure to get out and get moving everyday. In the last month of pregnancy I found it easiest to do cardio on the treadmill on low resistance and walking slowly. With both pregnancies I worked out up to and including the day I went into labor. I found that exercising lightly in early labor helped to move things along and get the blood flowing. Some days I felt like laying on the couch and watching movies and some days I felt like taking on the world. Some days I cried alot and felt fat and ugly and some days felt like a Goddess. Take it in stride, don't put too much thought into your changing moods and feelings - your hormones will do what they do. Taking enzymes and a prenatal is a good idea to make sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals. I found that marinated and dehydrated raw nuts and seeds helped with heartburn and raw crackers helped with any nausea much better then processed ones. Most importantly, if you just can't eat another green smoothie or salad and you feel you must have some bread, cheese, eggs or what ever it is important to heed your bodies cravings. I craved eggs and cheese occasionally during both pregnancies and felt better when I had them.

Let me know if you need any resources. :) OH! AND FLAUNT THAT BELLY BABY! You look great, even if you don't feel it. Know that everyone LOVES a pregnant women. YOU GODDESS YOU. ;)

Thanks Julianne, I'm actually writing an article for Get Fresh Magazine on raw pregnancy. If you are interested in the publication, I believe it will be published in the Spring issue. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you have during your pregnancy. My husband, who is a Doctor, and I are happy to offer advice or direct you to any information you may need. Many Blessings!

Nice to meet another person from Jersey on here. By the way, my dad's been saying that doughnut quote to me for years. I always thought he was the originator.

Funny quote, I've never heard that one, but it makes sense! By the way, I think Chicago does have a raw food restaurant if not more. I haven't been but I heard someone talking about it.

Cacao milk shake - got to love it. Been making one lately that is UNHOOKED - hint. Make the base line with a tropical fruit - makes it creamy and smooth - and a great way to reduce the amount of nut / seed milk to get that amazing flavor. So - there you go. - Oh - your quote is way cool too ! - blessings - J

Hey Michele! We fast 8-10 people per year for 6 weeks and most of them have amazing experiences. Incidentally, though some people imagine there's a need to "work up" to a long fast like this, many are fasting this long for the first time; in fact,...
