If anyone has advice, I would greatly appreciate it... (threats)

Okay, so here is my situation: I have been raw for a few months now and vegan before that. I moved to my dad's house and he noticed a change in my groceries before, but last week on the way to get groceries, the whole way there, he bashed me about how I eat and I'm not healthy and it is his and my mom's fault for not stopping me over 5 years ago when I went vegan (which they tried with force and abuse) and how he told me before I had to change what I get and if I don't he will put me in the hosp… Continue

Who likes bananas?

If you like bananas, then you should definitely try this if you haven't already!!

Take those very very ripe bananas and peel them, then put them in a freezer bag or container and put it in the freezer. After they are frozen take them out and cut them up (if too hard, let them set for a little while). Then you put them in a blender with a little water and blend until smooth and creamy! I love this!! (some times I leave little chunks of the banana in mine) ^.^

I hope you enjoy this!

Also, when… Continue

Have you told your father the things your mothers done? Maybe show him how much that has ruined your relationship, let him know you don't want that to happen with him. I was 17 when I started raw, and after a while I just had to sit my mum down and give a speech. Something with lots of "accept that I'm going to do this whether you like it or not, know that while this isn't everyone's way of rebellion it's a shot better than drugs, drink, and violence," a few assurances that I would agree to regular blood screenings and would forgo mentioning to any of the family or friends that I'm a nutjob.

Also, try to not take it so seriously. Mock it, why not. "Raw foodism" makes people (especially family and close friends) uncomfortable because they start to assume you think you're one higher than they are, sort of like the one guy in the group of bachelors that gets married or the one fat friend who loses the weight. They'll be "happy" for you, but there's going to be a lot of animosity and passive-aggressiveness until they get past the shock. It helps to make light of something they might start to consider very serious though, in my opinion. The ability to laugh it off and every once in a while, if someone offers you food, to take a bite or two and tell them how fantastically bloody good it is and how you wish you weren't on this stupid diet but how it's the only way you (*whatever you've felt since raw here) yadda yadda. Through in an irritable bowel, some acne troubles, and they'll forget their spite and start to sympathize.

...And then, once they're immobilized, you can steal their shoelaces and run off into the sunset.

thank you :) yeah, i'd much rather not get bloodwork but that seems to be the only thing that will convince my parents. i guess that a doctor could put down raw foods like anyone else, but blood work will sort of seal the deal on who's right/who's wrong and if you're lacking in something it'll tell you what you need to work on. i'm going in an hour to get mine.. hopefully it'll be okay. wish me luck! and good luck to you! :)

I'm sorry you're going through all that. My parents aren't at all supportive of my dietary habits, especially my mother who is quite hostile to it all, but the difference is that I'm 37 years old. I honestly don't know what I'd do in your position.

hey Jessika...you know, it makes me remember being in my family--this therapist when i was like 16 or 17 said my health and sanity would be directly proportional to how little contact i had with my family...lol! it didn't have to turn out that drasticallly, but i can just so identify with where you are right now. it's terrible but it will pass, and if that's the only thing you can get from this, then it is at least something. all best to you in this day and in each and every day....8^))

I understand, my Dad was a very abusive alcoholic. When I was 5 years old I was beaten for trying to choose not to eat certain foods. If you know that your father won't physically hurt you. I would almost suggest not eating at all if you honestly feel like whatever is in front of you will harm your body more than nourish it. Some people might think that is bad advice. But as a child every time I ate something because I was afraid of violence, a part of my spirit died, and I lost the strength to say no later on when peers were offering me drugs and alcohol. I actually wish I took the beatings and kept my choice. It will be okay, you only have 2 or 3 years until you are free, it will go by fast. I'm praying that your father changes his mind and that you two have a peaceful resolution. Focus on the brightest and best possible outcome you can imagine, hold it in your mind and say yes to it. Remember how many people here online care about you and believe in you. Blessings.

Yup.

And don't let them BS you either. If they say, "oh well you are low in this or that, or high in this or that" ask if that is a risk factor or simply a comparison to average (which is arguably not healthy). Ask what disease it is associated with etc . . . :D

Good luck!!!

Hi Jessika! My husband and I are making a documentary which involves a summer camp for teens and raw foods. Just wondering how old you are and if you might be interested in applying as a counselor?
