I experimented with being a raw vegan August of 2008 and was yo-yoing between cooked vegan and raw vegan for 4 months. This year, I gave myself 30 days to be completely 100% raw vegan to test out how I'd feel about the social pressures, the time it takes, and how much focus I'd need in thinking about being raw. Well, on day 31 I ate cooked food for 2 days and I felt awful! So I decided to commit to another 30 days of being raw and I'm so glad I did. I love all the benefits I started to see with being raw, most importantly the health benefits and clear, smooth skin. I expect to go on for the remainder of this year and I don't see myself ever going back to cooked vegan food again, at least not as a lifestyle choice.
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
It's still hard to be in my cooked food social community, especially when most of my friends prefer to hang out by going out to restaurants. I'd prepare by eating beforehand and just getting a small salad at most places. This does limit me to only restaurants that serve salad, which eliminates Chinese, Indian, Mexican, and Japanese (only raw fish, no salad). I'd like to meet cool people with the same eating habits through this site.

Hope your day is going great. I can relate to what you wrote about the challenge of going out to restaurants with friends. And you get to answer all of those questions too, haha. :)
Hi Jennifer, it all depends on where you want to be in Costa Rica.
My situation is up in the air, or I would surely host you and your friends.
Are you going to beach? mountains? San Jose?
I suggest couchsurfing.com for finding free places to stay.
Feel free to send me a personal message and I can give you my phone and e-mail so that you I can give you as much advice as you want :-)
Hi Jennifer,
Yes, that would be cool. I enjoy giving advice and showing people around. The best thing about Costa Rica is how cheap and plentiful fruits and vegetables, especially fruits, are!
I feel fungal overgrowth is the biggest threat to human health today and it's always wise to win the war on candida. I used to be really into making sure I didn't eat any food that raw vegans considered toxic and be really dogmatic. I prefer livin...

pineapples are weird eh. Wiley old foxes.
Can you just eat more volume so you don't binge? also, what about eating really dense herbs like a bunch or two of parsely or basil put into a pesto? Parsely is high in iron so you can make a tabouli with it and use oranges instead of tomatoes- it...
