Thank you Jason, for your reply to my "Help! I hate celery"-discussion. I'm new to raw and need all the help I can get, both with transitioning and my colitis.
Thanks again!
I hope you have a great week!

Oh yes, young coconuts the very first thing in the morning is great! its one of those great aspects that make me go out on jogging in the wee hours, pre sun rising. However it isnt possible daily as mostly am working till 4 or even 5 am and then just drop off. But its so much greater spending the day that way!

Ohkay yeah so its nice and warm here. My first "raw" winter though. Not much winter at all. IT IS warm. 14 or 12 degree at the most. yeah sometimes down to 8 or 10 at night. But i feel very chilly at times. this has been so since being vegan.body temperature drops. I feel colder than anyone around. :p But its also nice. I remember not to have felt the summer heat at all this year.

So NY sounds so nice. wow!!!! snow. i long to go somewhere colder for a holiday. that would be awesome. its great to know you are doing so well on your first raw winter. Somedays back when i was down with fever and had exams to appear for, i longed and longed for some warm soup. i have slightly warmed tea most of the time though. but anyways i was fine and the longings just went off on their own...:) Haha! When its in a colder area i dont think i could be so strong willed!
blessings and affection!
Take care of yourself and have fun!

Thanks for all the info. I am actually in Horseheads and I got the mushrooms in Ithaca. A couple from Wegmans and a couple of organic ones from the Green Star co op. They are drying as I type. Thanks!

Profile Information

About Me:
I got into raw food because of a medical condition and realized that it helped me feel much healthier, physically and mentally. I used to have a problem craving cooked carbohydrates, but ever since I started eating massive amounts of fruit every day, as recommended by people like Durianrider, it's actually become a none issue(wow!). I'm interested in learning applicable knowledge that I can implement in my own personal lifestyle.
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
I'm interested in giving valuable advice to striving raw-fooders to make the transition easier.
Relationship Status:
Single
Favorite Raw Food or Recipe?
Coconut Water from a freshly cracked young coconut
Interests (outside of Raw Food):
Running
Yoga
Learning Things Online
Organic gardening
Playing BF2142
Steam Room
Just being what I am

I'm interested in improving my relationship with all living beings, at every level of consciousness, whether in the kingdom Plantae, Fungi, or Animalia.
Favorite Books or Authors:
author - Fyodor Dostoevsky, book - Self Healing: Colitis and Crohn's
Favorite Quote:
One had to cram all this stuff into one's mind for the examinations, whether one liked it or not. This coercion had such a deterring effect on me that, after I had passed the final examination, I found the consideration of any scientific problems distasteful to me for an entire year. --Albert Einstein

Basic Green Smoothie Info

For my green smoothies I often like to use:
--One type of dark green leafy vegetable(spinach, kale, collards, swiss chard, beet greens, arugula, yu choy, watercress, etc.)
--Parsley (you could use any green herb with a high nutrient content but parsley is readily available at every market)
--One type of relatively acidic fruit (Tangerines are my favorite but any citrus works, as well as pineapple, mango, etc.)
--One type of sweet fruit (frozen banana is definitely my favorite; also apple, pear, berries, grapes with seeds, etc.)(I only use fresh produce that I've personally froze myself; bags of frozen fruit are different than fresh produce.)
--Flax and/or Chia Seeds (1-2 Tbsp. in any combination)
--Fresh coconut (optional)(according to taste - if you don't have fresh, a small amount of coconut oil/butter l can be used)
--Water (to achieve desired consistency)

In my opinion that is a solid base for your green smoothies. Other ingredients I often add include green cabbage, lettuce, celery, ground maca root, different types of seaweed, and various other fruits.
I don't like adding ice because it thins out the smoothie too much. Instead just freeze your sweet fruit and add it to the blender last, making sure not to over-blend. Coconut and Chia will also add thickness. Green Smoothies taste best when they are freshly made. Drink to your health!
