I've spent the last couple of weeks avoiding internet boards and such thinking about what it means to me to eat healthy. I know that I feel the best if I eat 100% raw, but there are downsides to eating raw for me - namely the fact that I have to f...

The grains I eat are a lot of quinoa and occasionally wild rice, I have never heard anyone refer to either of these as toxic. I am questioning whether it is really necessary to eat 100% raw, not questioning whether it can be done or not. I have b...

This is pretty similar to an argument I have been making for a very long time. I do not eat 100% raw. The exceptions I usually make are for grains - specifically quinoa and wild rice. I try soaking them and I just can't take the texture so I cook ...

I have learned never to trust anyone that is trying to sell me anything. I do have to say that Frank Black's comment above is the highlight of my day so far.

Most people on Atkins-like, high protein low carb diets aren't overweight, they probably just have really unhappy internal organs.

Profile Information

About Me:
In 2001 a two week raw cleanse turned into a six month lifestyle change. Although I didn't keep it up I remembered how great I felt eating raw. In late 2008 I did a juice fast which has turned into a long-term raw lifestyle. I probably eat about 80% raw and I love it and feel great!

Raw Food and Appetite

First off, on Friday I got a bunch of people together to go see Food Inc. There ended up being over 20 people at the movie, some of them raw, some of them trying to be vegetarian, and some not concerned with what they eat. While the movie was interesting there was no information in it that was new to me. However some of the people who went who were not at all concerned with what they eat told me the next day that they are thinking of going vegetarian. So that is a huge success!

On Saturday I we… Continue

Bachelor Party and Caravan of Dreams

An old friend of mine is having a bachelor party this coming weekend. He was actually the one who introduced me to raw food back in 2000, but even though his fiance is vegan he has since slipped and given up on eating raw. This weekend he is having a very, very long party. From Friday evening to Sunday evening. Way too long for me to party for, not that I really "party" much anyway.

The party kicks off on Friday night with dinner at a steakhouse in Brooklyn followed by a night of clubbing. Igno… Continue

Clearwater Festival and Subsequent Detox

This weekend I volunteered at the Clearwater Festival which conveniently was right in the town where I live. Clearwater was started by Pete Seeger in the 1960s to raise money to try to clean up the Hudson River.

Volunteering is a lot of fun. They feed you from Friday night through Sunday night. There are volunteers dance parties on Friday and Saturday nights, plus there was an acoustic jam Saturday night in the camping area. As a volunteer you get to camp… Continue

Recipes

Recipes seem to work backwards from how I think. With a recipe you see a recipe you like, you put the ingredients on your list and then you make it. When I go shopping I find produce that looks good and then I try to figure out what to make with it. Sometimes I get home from the store and I have a bunch of random ingredients that I need to try to figure out what to make with. What do you make from an eggplant, a pineapple, dried cranberries, mushrooms and zucchini?

I wish that recipes worked mo… Continue

Hi April, We get a fair number of applicants, and it varies all the time. It is absolutely NOT required that someone be raw for any length of time. What is required is that someone be truly open and coachable. This is paradigm-busting stuff bas...
