A short (water) fast will certainly allow your body to heal itself fastest, and I would say is far better than treating the symptom, which may make you feel better, but will almost always interfere with proper healing.

Ive never kicked myself in the gut from grains though, never a tummy ache, unless mixed with processed foods.
