Magnificent mangoes

Yes, the title sounds corny but I couldn't help it. It is mango season now and over the past few months I have been in awe of all the huge, flowering mango trees all around city and country.

Once I heard that mango trees have a special sort of energy that can even replenish and cure a dying person if you hug them a certain way. I don't know whether it is true or not, but they are certainly have a particular kind of presence I can't exactly put into words. For those of you who never… Continue

JF days 15-17

Day 15 was a major detox day, both physically and emotionally. I woke up with pains all over, as if my bone were poking me from the inside out. I had been feeling a little of that for a few days already, but that day it was full-blown. Intuitively, I juiced some aloe from my herb garden, along with some cucumber. It tasted awful (well, not the taste so much, it's just that I hate that gooey texture!), but in a few minutes my body was tingling all over and I started to feel better. Afterwards I… Continue

And now what?

I had planned a short, 10 day juice feast because we will soon be traveling to Canada - I thought it would be too complicated to maintain the JF while traveling by plane, etc. Well, the 9th day arrived and I felt lost. I KNEW I would probably start binging on my favorite Brazilian foods. I KNOW I want to change and grow beyond this point. On the other hand, several things scare me. One is that I'm afraid of getting too skinny. High raw brought down to my "ideal weight", but I think I look weird… Continue

A raw carnival day (JF day 8)

I did it! I spent a day at the local (Olinda) carnival festivities while raw and survived!!

Honestly I expected more to it. I thought old, bottled-up feelings would surface (as I've said before, my dad died right after carnival, 15 years ago), but nothing happened. It was actually a pretty bland afternoon, at least emotion-wise. Besides, although this is a situation where there are many people that are all about being happy and dancing, there are…

Juice feasting and carnival

Carnival is here. It is a huge thing in Brazil – not only the samba from Rio, but so many

different sounds and rhythms, especially here in the Northeast. In fact, my

city has the largest carnival parade in the world, which gathers about 1.5

million people every year (I’ve only been to that one once or twice! Too much

of a crowd for me!! :))…

hi EcoDea! I've found your profile while i was looking for some info on being raw in Brazil. i'm going there at the end of january and staying there for a month. i know that there's lots of gorgeous fruit there, but i was just wondering if it was sfae to eat them everywhere? i mean, i don't want to be prejudiced, just looking for some info! i've heard that in some parts of brazil it's unsafe to drink wtaer that's not boiled... is this true?
also, where in north east are you living? i'm going first to belem and then possibly to manaus and maybe down south...
please let me know if you have any tips on travelling and staying healthy in brazil! i can't wait to go there :)

Thanks for the great recommendations! So it's common to get sugared juice unless you specify otherwise? Well...I guess all the juice in the US is full of sugar too unless you get fresh squeezed. I'm definitely looking forward to fresh coconut!

ReAwakening

Good Morning! I just thought I would post to say hello to everyone, as I am coming back after a long haul of taking care of others who were in very bad straights, which in turn put me in very bad straights too.  I am back to being me now, and pursing the life I have wanted and missed for so long.  I am growing my holistics and massage practice in Coppell, TX, healing myself, and thriving! It looks like many of the folks I knew when I first truly embraced raw veganism are not around.  I was…See More
