Robert, thank you for the advice on Alissa Cohens book, I did not know there was a four week menu to start out with shopping lists. This is exactly what I need as well. Transitioning has been really really hard. My dear hubby is supportive but say...

Thanks so much, Johnny and Robert! I'll definitely look into the "Living on Live Food" book. :)

Hi Brittney, Regarding portions, be sure to eat more than you think you need while you are transitioning. Listen to your body, and be sure you are getting a LOT of food. That will make it easier on you to transition, and as you adjust, you will f...

Seeds are truly raw if you can sprout them. Nuts, well you can order them from a good supplier to raw fooders and ask them up front if the nuts are truly raw, at least thats what I do. Also, depending where you live, you can find small scale growe...

Actually, I haven't cut out coffee completely, I go back and forth- I went over 1 year without it and drank mostly green teas, hot water with lemon and such. I just eat until I'm full- with raw foods, it's awesome how much you can eat and maintain weight and even lose if your body needs it. Just don't eat too many nuts, they make me bloated and with less energy.

Honestly, I just jumped right in to raw foods- I just started eating simple raw foods like salads, raw veggies and fruits. It didn't bother me at all- although I know some people might have detox affects. Besides a headache or craving, I did pretty well without a fast, although if I had known about it, I might would have tried it that way.

Profile Information

About Me:
I've recently chosen to become a raw vegan after being a vegetarian for a few years. I'm a 19, (very) soon to be 20 year old, 3rd year student at Grand Valley State University. My major is Writing; my minor is Hospitality and Tourism Management. For more fun facts about me, take a look at www.myspace.com/brittylee07! Thank you :)
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
Any help and support would be more than appreciated. This is a tough transition because I live in a city that isn't so friendly towards being a raw-vegan, not to mention my omnivorous family! It shall be a challenge, but I know I can take it; I'm more than ready! :)

Single
Favorite Raw Food or Recipe?
Fruit salad! I'm simple. :)
Interests (outside of Raw Food):
Writing, dancing, exercise, walking, inspiring others, living positively, music, going to big concerts, going to local shows, shopping, antiques, hearing people's stories, making an impact, staying true to myself, and chasing my dreams.... I could keep going, but I don't want to bore anyone! :P

Transition

Hello! I'm new to being an all-raw-foodist, but I've been reading about it for quite a few months before deciding that I'm ready to make the transition. I'm still a bit unsure of how I should do so, though. I've read so many different methods that I haven't got a clue of which one would be best for me to do! Right now I'm in the midst of a 48 hour water fast just to cleanse my body before I really start with the all-raw-ness. I have been playing with the raw-food diet, on and off, for a month or… Continue

I do like the Violent Femmes but I think that is too pessimistic. Nihilistic hard driving folk.

I have not used the stuff for years, it gives me heart palpitations. but when I did use the stuff my 1st choice was liquid (especially the flavored ones they have like toffee) 2nd choice: white, which is more processed, but I can not even stomach ...

Soft rock is soft, not driving rock, but soft gushy love songs, romantic, smooth..stuff you are embarrassed to admit you like. Stuff that makes you imagine you are swimming with sea horses, or hanging out on a rainbow with your love.

Did you just blend banana and vanilla? I made ice cream with banana and cacao nibs... it was really good.

Yum. I love raw spaghetti so much.

That looks really good. I should make more elaborate desserts, I tend to keep it simple.

Only because Suvine asked me to. I have almost no idea what qualifies as soft rock, but if most of the music here is any indication, that's probably because I don't actually like soft rock. For the most part. Does Queen qualify as soft rock? I ha...
