Probably just tossing a little orange zest or orange essence oil (not sure on rawishness of it, but you should just need a few drops) ~ sounds scrummy! :) I wonder how it would work to dehydrate little bits of orange until not hard but soft & slig...

Has anyone else read the Bragg water book? The Bragg book advocates distilled water as many other waters, including spring water, contain inorganic minerals that our body cannot use. I don't know what to believe any more! If the Braggs are right...

Those are great replies and links - thanks. I have started reading the Pavel books and think some of the bodyweight routines/displays seen on Youtube are quite motivational. One of the female members of GITMR has an impressive push up display. I...

I have several sprouts on the go at any one time and mix them in a salad for lunch. I too use hemp sprouting bags. This week for the first time I have tried fenugreek. The raw seed smelled quite spicy and the sprouted seeds still smelled spicy. ...

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a high school teacher that had been over weight for nearly ten years. Over that period my health had slowly started to deteriorate. I started off eating a raw diet in 2008, and my health was on the mend. I lost loads of body fat through eating raw and exercising.

I now eat 811rv and my health feels better each and every day.
How can the community best support you in your journey? (moral support, transition advice, fitness tips, etc)
I am looking for inspiration for ways to eat an 811rv diet. Where do people buy such large quantities of fruit from at affordable prices. What recipes are others using? etc.

Do 811'ers still do cleanses and fasts?
Relationship Status:
Married
Favorite Raw Food or Recipe?
Has to be green smoothies.
Interests (outside of Raw Food):
I like growing my own fruit and vegetables and have been working hard to make the poor soil in my garden suitable for organic growing. It had no life and is full of stones :-(

I have ridden motorcycles for years and enjoy getting out for a ride when I can. There is something about riding a bike that makes me feel alive. I also like riding my mountain bike over the local hills.

I enjoy many different computer based activities (digital photography, video, web design, programming, etc.) since starting using computers in 1981. The internet has made enjoying technology all the better.

Over the years I have performed magic (conjuring) but don't seem to have the time to do so much any more. I still like to watch a good magician.

Growing my own RAW

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all GITMR friends.

I am really looking forward to getting the garden growing again this year. My raw eating tailed off a bit as winter came in and I have learned that one of my biggest challenges is staying raw when I am not growing it myself.

In a 12 week period over last summer I lost 28 lbs of weight and, according to bodyfat measurement, I lost more than this in fat as I gained quite a bit of muscle at the same time. I still have about another 28 lbs of fat to lose before… Continue

no problem man. i've switched to the bodyweight routines over the summer and definitely enjoy them more. it's great to be outdoors (except maybe in this blistering cold) and most of the stuff seems more functional than lifting weight. have fun!

mmm biscuits and brownies sound good, if you could recommend some recipe books that would be great (it'll motivate me to put more effort into applying for jobs so i can treat myself hehe)
thats cool that there are other vegetarians and vegans here too...its more important to me to eat vegan wholefoods than to be 100% raw...though the only non raw thing I have had in the past four days is a sprinkle of cinnamon so I'm feeling quite proud of myself.
is there anywhere you know of where i can buy food, health shops, farmers markets etc? and also anywhere to eat that makes anything vegan thats not full of crap (ive just been told by my boyfriends parents we're going out for a meal for his birthday, i don't really want to eat out but feel i should make an effort to try and find somewhere that wont make me feel like crap after eating there)
sorry about all the questions, just trying to sort myself out in a new place!

Hello! I actually found this whole site because I have just moved to the Isle of Man and typed 'Raw Foodists Isle of Man' into google (hoping I wasn't the only one) and your profile popped up! So thought I'd say hello :-)

Hello again. how are things going?
My little sis lived on Man for about a year...she's now in Sydney which is probably only marginally more expensive to get to :-)

Well, I had a frustrating night setting up my time capsule, only due to my own stupidity - didn't realise I still needed my router, d'oh! All hooked up and happy now - took AGES for the first back ups. So far, I'm a happy bunny. I chose the time capsule as I wanted to be able to back up wirelessly from my iMac and MacBook and now that its up and running it is great to know it is happening invisibly and automatically. I suppose the real test is when I actually need to restore something though...lets hope I never have to!

Hey you! You're a pro, don't need any tips from me Mr Reid!! Great to see work in progress, I didn't chart my garden as it took shape. You've loads of space, and your green house is about the size of my polytunnel (20 x 16). But if your neighbours don't mind you have room for a decent poly too. Have you seen this little 10 minute film on growing your own? Great for inspiration. Well done you! I honestly think there are few things more pleasurable than watching your seedlings grow... then harvesting and eating just seconds from the garden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCPEBM5ol0Q&eurl=

Hey Andrew
That's great that it's going so well for you. Phases, I've come to learn, are all par for the course. Eating raw for me in the main is good however I've reached a phase in my journey where I'm dabbling with cooked food. It doesn't make me feel very good physically but sometimes mental health can override. I'm quite sure it's just a wee blip.
I see you're a teacher, I guess high school dinners are out. Mind you Jamie Oliver did quite well at making school dinners more healthy didn't he?
