Allie

I wrote a letter to 2008.

Dear 2008,

You suck.

On New Year's Day you made my grandmother sick, and she had to go to the hospital. A month later you took Michael Litfin's life away, due to stomach cancer. On February 15th (happy birthday to my cousin?) you killed my Grandma and I miss her terribly. Just over a month later, you got me pregnant, then broke me up with the love of my life, then you HORRIBLY TOOK MY BABY AWAY. you made me have to leave school. you gave me depression unprecedented. You have given me a diagnos… Continue

alright.

So I'm really not a judgmental person in most cases. But I kind of sort of really judge people who intentionally eat food that is terrible for them. My university was ranked highest in tuition costs for two straight years in the country so this isn't a community in which money is a huge issue for people (I know fully that there are problems among people of lower socioeconomic statuses and the high costs of healthy foods) but even if we are "starving college students" per say I mean… Continue

Some thoughts

It'll be such a weird/sad Thanksgiving this year. Every day that we get closer to it is another day with a little more confusion and a little more heartbreak. I had my ectopic on March 29th this year at about 6weeks along, so counting 9 months from mid-February leaves me close to Thanksgiving Day.
When I'm home from school and having Thanksgiving dinner with the family, there will actually be two people missing from the table. My grandmother passed away on February 15th, and this will be the fir… Continue

Allie

why does food make me sick like this?

even without being raw, it would seem I really CAN'T eat like normal people.
last night, studying late. in the midst of ridiculous back to back midterms hadn't eaten dinner. everything closed. was hungry. had no food of my own in the apartment. figured ok, one cooked meal every once and awhile can't hurt--I am still transitioning to this amazing, yet, restrictive lifestyle. had an amy's dish (vegan & gluten free, but certainly not raw). tasted good, but different, but oh. big mistake. oh god… Continue

hey have you checked out java green in dc? i haven't been down there yet but it heard it's a really cool spot. also does dc still have a ton of homeless people? i went there for a natural products expo and they were everywhere. super aggressive and following you around. they are much more passive in nyc.

QUESTION for anyone who can answer:
next Thursday night I have to go out to dinner to Bertucci's, it's a work thing haha but I definitely do have to go. Is there anything there that I can order? Or do I say I'm just not hungry? ahh help!

I know people like Vita Mix blenders, I never understood why...Blendtec is SOOOooooo much better, high tech, blends perfectly every time, same price or lower, soft push buttons, tons of benefits and better than Vita Mixed Up!

I know what you mean- it's so hard trying to wait to see what is in your future- I'm like that too, I like to go ahead and know lol- sounds great any which way you go though.

Some ideas for raw drinks is raw chocolate milkshakes- raw cacao, nut milk, bananas. You can also drink teas- if you buy the loose teas, I think that is as close to raw as you can get, you will need raw agave for sweetener or some people use yacon syrup- I personally haven't tried it yet, so I don't know how it is. I like Yerba mate tea w/cashew milk (cashews, cinnamon, agave, vanilla- squeeze through nut bag or you can buy a painters cloth at Home depot and refrig.) and agave and cinnamon- it's what helped wean me off of coffee- it's the closest thing in my opinion. Also, I've heard lots about Teechino- but haven't tried it, I've heard it is very yummy though! It's a replacement for coffee. Another beverage would just be water with lots of squeezed lemon and add agave and make lemonade. A juicer is great to have also- you don't have to spend lots of money - I found a kitchen aid one when I first went raw for $50 and it still works great, or I would google used vitamix- I have one and love it.

Wow, that is awesome and soon! Canada is so beautiful but it was chilly when we went- I think it gets pretty cold there and Hawaii is beautiful too- I'm going back for the second time and if I had a chance to live there, I so would do it! Plus the weather is nice all of the time and they have the best beaches!

There are some stores I would recommend- not sure what you are close to but Trader Joe's is great, Costco has lots of raw and organic choices- I just went there and got a membership and they even had Lara bars for $10 per box! Also, I would look into finding a co-op close by- they always have lots of organic and raw- I joined one, but it's a couple of hours away but we do bulk shopping so it's worth it. As far as online, Amazon is great-just type in raw and organic and you'll see how many options they have- it really depends on what you are looking for- like I just bought raw organic seaweed on eBay from Matt Monarch for a great price- what types of things are you looking to purchase?
