Hey ya'll, I practice Bikram Yoga while being 90-100% raw. When practicing my concentration is so much deeper and I am able to give 110% majority of the time.
Just want to know who else practices BK. What are your experiences? Do you have any specific foods that you eat before class or after class?
I love your inspiring words here! I LOVE bikram yoga and have gone in phases doing it with consistency over the past several years. Now that I'm mostly raw, classes always rock and detoxification is at an all-time high, w/out negative side effects!
After class, I always have my mason jar with coconut water and 1 tbsp of Revitaphi. It's SO replenishing and nice to enjoy something cool after the heat. I've found that my energy is not depleted when I have this drink waiting for me in the car.. and I drink it on the way home. :)
haha this is so true... the part about feeling love for others. Its almost weird. I read your reply before taking any classes and could not understand it but now I do! I find the key to get the most benefit from the class is to be meditative inspite of the constant instruction, the heat and a packed yoga studio.
i've found a hot yoga class that I love now. The room is heated just like bikram, but we do different types of yoga. I found the bikram classes too militant and a bit like going to the gym. No soul. But my hot yoga class is great. They have really meditative yin classes (my fave) or power vinyasa or regular hot yoga which is similar to bikram but nicer.
What I love about Bikram is that its rigid set of postures help you see yourself through your own different moods and emotions. The quality of other vinyasa classes, whether heated or no, seem totally dependent on the teacher. This was tough for me here in NYC because the better teachers always seemed to get snatched up by better gyms, studios, etc. which sort of left me off kilter and unable to stick to a schedule of sorts. With Bikram its mostly about me. In a way it's more uncomfortable but in the way that meditation can be uncomfortable. I'm all for switching up my yoga classes, going to Ashtanga or dropping in on old favorite Vinyasa teachers when I can but the Bikram has stayed unusually solid for me.
Hey Anisha,
I like going to Bikram in the morning and to keep my belly as empty as possible. Just water and a caffeine booster (yes, I know, I'm the coffee devil). Afterwards I loves the Zico and a banana or a smoothie if I can get it together before I head out.
Hey Ilene,
Thanks for 'fessing up on the caffeine!
I've not done the 30 day challenge but keep thinking about it too. When I started Bikram though I was going 4-5 days a week. Yeah, I couldn't imagine 30 days either. Besides, the rewards for the 30 day are not that appealing to me. Do I want another consecutive 30 days after having completed 30 days? I would prefer free mat rentals, water, zico along with free 30, non-consecutive, days.
Ilene,
Zico is a coconut water drink sold at most Bikram studios around here.
I kinda buy the dialogue vs. monologue business. The teachers are giving certain instructions based on what they see the students doing. But I guess that isn't unique to Bikram, right? I say, if you're going to buy a monthly unlimited anyway, why not just do the challenge and get that next month free? If I had a challenge buddy, I would do it. Don't see the fun in it any other way at the moment.
:)
So I signed up for the 2 week introductory class and I went some 8 or 9 classes. And while classes in the beginning were ok; now i am having sessions that are mind blowing! I felt so good after yesterdays class... I was literally just smiling. I don't know if this is a common feeling. I notice feeling like this when I am completely putting attention on breathing, being in the moment and not letting my thoughts wander....I am feeling the energy flow of my body during the class. Does anybody else feel this good?
Me walking between China and Dragon as I get ready to turn them out into a big pasture. They're my buds, they stay real close to me, one on each side, whenever I got out to where they are. It is very sweet! :)
It sounds like you are not eating enough fruit. If you eat more sweet fruit, your desire for candy and other processed foods that are sweet will go away.
