Give it to me Raw

I'm wondering how usual is it for UK-raw-foodies to have their own dehydrator?

I would love one, but is it extravagant?

Which one do you have? How much did you pay for it? Where did you get it?

What sort of things do you dehydrate?

How often do you use it?

Do you think it saves money in the long run?

I have an excalibur 9 tray. I use it about 3 -4 times per month for kale chips, crackers and to dry out any fruit or veg that is going a bit 'sad', to use them up..like mushrooms, apples, tomatoes, peppers (they make nice snacks/salad toppers)
I also use it to melt my butters when im making chocolate etc, easier than a porringer!

It is worth it and i think better to spend a bit more on the 9 tray so you can do a bigger batch of things at a time.....

I made my own dehydrator out of an old computer printer box, lined with foil, and an anglepoise lamp. Apart from having to replace the light bulb every so often it was free, and dehydrayes raw cookies, crackers, pizza base, buckwheaties etc. I don't use it very often, but it's good to have it there when I need it!

lol! Very cool! If my partner sees this idea, I definitely won't be allowed to spend £200 on a dehydrator!

I'm suprised not to find more going second-hand on e-bay. Does anybody know any other good places to look?

... so I've done some more surfing this morning. Has anybody used a L'Equip dehydrator?

They are much cheaper than the Excalibur (£129), and you can buy extra trays (up to a maximum of 20 for £1.50 each!) also, if you only want to use 1 tray you can - saving energy etc. I'm quite tempted!

Go Germany! I'm no longer working with The LifeCo & Saf in Muc, or organising events, workshops & talks in Muc, as I am abroad. I still consult clients & can provide your fave superfoods. My RawCacaoLove chocolate can be ordered through me directly.

my magic bullet burnt out, it was good for travelling while I had it though. Can you get a second hand blender? The cheaper ones I have used don't chop up the greens as well. Try to get something with a higher wattage, like 1000watt.
