I'd love to hear what people are doing to live a G-lifestyle. Thought we could share and learn from each other...here are a few to get us started:
1) I use CFBs for light bulbs.
2) I re-use rags instead of buying and using papertowels for cleaning.
3) Recycling plastic, paper, etc
4) Reduced consumption...in general, I ask myself when I think about buying something...do I "really" need this? What resources are used in my consumption of this?
Cheers!
1 I recycle
2 I avoid using plastic bags especially when taking food to work
3 I bring my own bags(never plastic) to the supermarket
4 I'm eliminating detergent from my life, I'm working out a few kinks with this one
5 I've started to composte my waste
6 I'm reconsidering my outlook on clothing
7 I try to buy as much organic products (not just produce) as possible
thats way more than 2 so i'll stop by saying...I was a compulsive shopper and bulk buyer before starting raw but now I've focused on using all everything that I had before buying new things and i try to not waste paper, ink or water also sound...we dont realize how much sound can damage the environment (sonars and whales are a good example) and the animals in it..humans included. Raw food is just the beginning, consciousness is the end result..its what i'm looking for in my life and I'm love it.
Only two huh? Well I love to load my arms or purse full of things at the store rather than a plastic bag (I always forget my cloth bags)! I get some pretty strange looks sometimes, but they'll learn someday. Numero dos: I reuse every container I can! Glass jars from olives, etc. are a really good way to bring dressing for salads to work. Wine bottles I use for nut milks and juices. I recycle as well, but this keeps me from buying new storage containers to take my raw goodies out into the world with me!!!
i compost everything, recycle or burn in the woodstove all paper, never print things out if possible, send emails and pay bills and such online or over the phone-
really rethink every purchase- i've been only buying organic, recycled, reused, vintage or sustainably made clothing and accessories lately (and very few at that matter). . . and it rocks! we really don't need that much stuff!
i also got rid of my car before christmas, and have been LOVING not owning one, and have been managing just fine. . .
i burn beeswax candles and avoid electricity as much as possible- bonus of being glowy and romantic too!
i make cards and envelopes and scrap paper for lists from any catalogue or letter i receive. . . things in my possession are basically reused until they can't be reused anymore!
i regift. and love it when others regift to me!
i never use paper towels, i use old fashioned type hankerchiefs whenever possible- that's right, i'm trying to make it trendy/classy again!
i never ever take a bag, even if it means juggling produce creatively out the door- despite the clerks baffled looks. . .
that's what i can come up with now. . . i know there's more- yay for green living!!!
Do you really refuse to ever take a bag? That's quite admirable. I try to do the same thing, but it's difficult when you've got enough produce to fill four bags. The other day, my stuff was bagged in plastic. It still bothers me that I caved like that.
You should check out fakeplasticfish.com. This lady posts her weekly plastic consumption. It's an interesting read about her battle with the evilness that is plastic.
As for my efforts, I've gotten rid of shampoo. I only buy soap that's wrapped in paper. I use soap nuts for my laundry instead of detergent. I've switched to drinking glass water bottles. (I have a filter, but I don't think it's doing that great of a job. Water still tastes kinda icky, but that's Jersey for you. Our water system is one of the worst in the nation.) More importantly, I've reduced the amount of my consumption. I don't buy that much stuff anymore. I hope to replace my gas-guzzling car with a hybrid by next year. I'm not composting, but I hope to start doing that this year. I've still got a ways to go before I'm all grown up.
I finally started remembering my canvas bags when I go to the store and try to recycle the leftover pastics, so I was at a loss as to what to toss my cats' used litter in. I found a good solution is to use empty plastic spinach or bread (if you haven't eliminated that) bags.
I also reuse a lot of plastic or metal containers for plant pots. Small ones are especially cute for planting seeds. Just poke a few holes in the bottom.
i install, promote and enjoy photonic light fields, they get as big as 90 mile radeuce , they reballence every thing on an ionic level, every thing does what it is ment to do, plants grow propaly water cleans up and energises, people become happyer, the pollution from cars drops massivly when installed. i clense my food in this way. birds love living in them animals the same.
i am looking into farming hemp in the u.k. for every good reason hemp can give.
i live a very simpal life not bying stuff i realy don't need.
i edgucate my self the best i can and don't get sucked into the wrong meadia package and vuce pay green taxes and have to go out working to pay for them,
i've found allot to be different than people say, i dont think i live perfectly but much better than i used to
i dont feel gilty for bringing my self into a world that is mostly doing stupid things and asking me to do the same
i spend most of my time going into my hart as deeply as poss, gaining a clearer pitcher for what i'm meant to be doing here now.
Don't use any heat or air conditioner in our house, bundle up in the winter, stay relaxed in the summer, walk down to the river when it's really hot
Use one car for 4 people we all car pool, and consolidate our errands so we take care of everybody's needs, and we drive less
recycle
share knowledge with all of the many people I know and meet on a regular basis, win them over with happiness, keeping it light, and dropping little seeds all of the time!
did you know you can wash your hair with honey and lemon?
still looking for the optimal teeth brushing solution, anybody have any suggestions
need less, buy less, recycle all clothes, and whenever possible, buy organic, or buy from the thrift store, we have an amazing one! and get many of our costumes for burning man there, and keep them forever, or regift them on the playa
always keep an open mind, and always reading and looking further into things, research is so important
connect with others who have like minds, I follow them on twitter and read their blogs, so that I continue to learn more and more peaceful and magical ways
no matter what, there is always an improvement to find, ;)
great post!!! thank you! opening up my mind again!
Hmmm, well, we have been making a real effort to clean out our closets and replace all of our worn out chemical grown cotton clothing with new organic clothing.
New organic socks
Organic Cotton Levis
Organic G Living T-Shirts
Organic cotton pieces from Stewart+Brown for Indulge
New Patagonia Recycled Pet Pull Overs
Also, we have started growing some of our own food in the small garden in from of the studio. We had a crop of cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, parsley, arugula and a variety of herbs.
Plus we have a amazing compost pile, over flowing with worms. Pretty cool.
honey and lemon. . . really?? it sounds so lusciously delectable. . . like a thousand times better than those old shampoo commercials, i can't even remember what they were for, where the girls are having an "organic" experience while shampooing. . .
is it really moisturizing, the honey must make it so. . .
and hydrogen peroxide swished around in the mouth. . . .and baking soda on the toothbrush with some tea tree and or neem oil. . .
or dr. bronner's diluted works for cleaning anything and EVERYthing! if you could only have one cleanser- that would be it, but you must know that from burning man lol!!
i love that you're always dropping little seeds of happiness and knowledge, just as important as the actual recycling , etc.
New thing I decided on this week--no driving on the weekend! Walking = First Priority. If that's not possible, always the bus or train!!! I don't live in an area where I can reasonably take the bus to work, but around Uptown Charlotte is all walkable or ride-able. YAY! I was so excited about this life transforming, earth aiding, gas money saving decision that I walked all across Uptown and back Saturday. It was such a blast!
hi gia! THANK YOU for the input :) also i'm curious, do you rest the entire time? if you're taking care of your family, you must be up and about.
what are your thoughts on living a normal life, working while doing this?
I haven't had cable for nearly 2 years, BUT I LOVE...

I just watch the new episodes on my computer.
He's still my hero, but I heard the guy was tyrannical and cruel to his family and co-workers. Marlon Brando talked about what a douchebag he was in his book; still though, comic genius.
OK, I guess to me getting rid of anger and envy and fear in ones self before being able to externalize it on a corporate scale just seems common sense as opposed to religious. Is that really religious? Or is it just that he is a Yogi addressing th...
Rome was AWESOME, another fantastic HBO series. True Blood is also pretty cool, but I read the books so it's bittersweet for me. Did anyone else catch Carnivale? That was really well done as well.
