Everyone, I need som help! I´m not doing very well with the stevia (I live in Sweden and can´t find the NuNaturals brand here). It just tastes artifical to me. I´m following Natalia´s Detox for women plan so other sweeteners (she doesn´t mention any others) and fruit are out. For now I´ve decided to keep the granny smith apple for my green lemonade. Not ideal I guess but I keep losing weight and feeling really great. So, people, any ideas?
I would say just stick with the apple. It's obviously working for you. The little bit of sugar it supplies is all natural and combined with all the fiber of the veggies, plus it's own, it should be fine. She mentions in the book that it's fine to use the apple and she does in her previous books as well. I'm just starting it also. Enjoy!
I´m definately sticking with the apple. I made a green lemonade this morning with stevia and it was discusting! I usually love it. Otherwise I´m really enjoying this, I´ve got the energy back that I first had when I was transitioning and I´m losing weight again, yay! Hope you´re enjoying it too!
First of all, you should do just fine with granny smith juice for now. Keep it up.
I really, really like the herba dolce and stevia in the raw brands. They, unlike some of the NuNaturals products, don't contain maltodextrin, and I find that they taste the best. You can find Stevia in the Raw online!
Otherwise, if you simply cannot in any way adjust to stevia, try using very small amounts of raw honey--in very serious moderation.
yes keep the green apple, you are doing great!
Donna Gates in the Body Ecology Diet Book mentions that it's ok if you are having candida. Agave is refined and not as natural and whole as your green apple. I use it too. Yet i like the liquid stevia i get here in the US but yours may be different.
If you really want to avoid apple but still want a kind of sweet taste you may try to use fennel and add more cucumber to your juice. Can't remember the ingredients in the recipe right now and don't have the book with me....
Anyway congratulations for your weight loss.
Lots of love,
I don't like the taste of stevia either, unfortunately, except in salad dressings (with lime it can be pretty okay). I don't care for licorice, either - think that it's a related aftertaste-on-the-palate thing. Green apple - great! And I agree with Gena about the raw honey. Personally, I am ok with a teaspoon of agave here and there, although yes, it definitely is processed (as is stevia powder w malto, Truvia, etc.) and contains fructose (fruit sugar) which may feed yeast more than raw honey - not sure about that. Quantity consumed makes a big difference, of course.
I wrote a little booklet called Natural & Healthy Sweeteners, where you can learn more about stevia, raw honey, yacon, agave and all the polyols. Available here:
I´m totally with you on the licorice and after taste thing! But I just made a dressing for my veggie noodles and arame with tamari, ginger, garlic, lime and one drop of liquid stevia, to round it off, and it turned out beautifully! So I guess a little goes a long way.
HI Anna - I've been thinking about the agave vs raw honey for yeast and I think that probably, the raw honey is a better bet because it contains anti-bacterial compounds. Also, although agave is more diabetic safe, raw honey is the more natural choice. (Kind of a toss-up.) Simply sugar-wise, I don't know if there's much difference in terms of "yeast feeding" between the two sweeteners, but the anti-microbials in the honey can't hurt!
Diana :)
P.S. Glad to hear you had a nice stevia experience with the noodle dressing - sounds yummy!

RGG,
the belly-centered symptoms that most people (mistakenly) call hunger usually pass within 2-3 days. Your body is not hungry while fasting because it gets all of its needs met from its own reserves.
Weeds, Outrageous Fortune (great kiwi comedy) Kath and kim (aussie) the office (UK) United states of Tara. There are alot really when I think about it. There are alot of great tv writers out there now but I am not into reality tv shows.

Another way to think about this is that "frugivore" is a word used by scientists to describe any animal that eats a fruit-based diet (including virtually all of the anthropoid primates). "Frugivore" has an accepted scientific definition. "Fruitari...
Hi Priyam and RGG,
Even blending them is a big step down in quality from eating them whole, for a number of reasons. The pre-chewing argument -- often heard -- doesn't really carry much weight as the benefit of chewing in the mouth is that any re...
