I am wondering how all you people like to sprout. I myself use two sprouting jars so as to continually keep a supply of fresh sprouts available. I am open to new ideas and techniques. What method works best for you people?
I like the sprouting bag, especially for smaller seeds like mustard, cabbage, alfalfa. Easy to rinse under running water, and I hang it over the sink to drain. I just grew my first batch of wheatgrass in the automatic sprouter, not sure if I like this method yet.
Jars are great if you want to sprout large quantities, I have a sprouting rack that can hold 9 x 3 liter Jars, it stands on a stainless steel drip tray. You can do much smaller Jars as well, depending on how many sprouts you go through. I juice a lot of sprouts hence the large number of jars. When I travel, I use smaller jars in a large saucepan, I put a stick of wood in the pan to create the angle and throw the whole lot in to the back of my Land Rover on top of the luggage. Lots of sun and light and good sprouting on the road. For hiking, I use bags and attach them to my back pack. Sprouting on the go is a great source of fresh procuce where you can not get any.
I do not like sprouting trays as sprouts need more attention and have to be rinsed more often. I find that there is not enough air flow in the trays.
Hope that helps
happy sprouting
Marc
I don't think this exists for humans yet, unfortunately - but what I think would be the healthiest mattress (and virtually free of dust-mites, even bed-bugs which inflict some homes recently) for humans would be the same as the healthiest for pets...
