I thought it might be fun to say hello to everyone and share what kind of music we sing. I have a degree in vocal performance (opera/classical singing) and currently make my living as a private voice teacher. I don't do much performing anymore, but I love it when I get the chance. Anyone else?
P.S. The photo is of me singing Schubert's "Gretchen am Spinnrade" at a university festival.
Hi Jenna!! What a great topic and photo! Very beautiful :)
I'm very impressed with your degree...I do not have any degrees, I am a self-taught singer. I love to sing ALL types of music. I love to sing jazz, alternative, blues, musical numbers...I actually really want to be in a musical. It's something I'm definitely going to do in the next year or so.
I love performing as well, whenever the chance comes up. I've performed as Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof (that was when I was younger though) and a few years ago sang the national anthem at the Making Strides breast cancer walk...there were 12,000 people there! So that's probably the biggest thing I've done. It was so much fun!
I'd LOVE to hear you sing! Next time you should put an attachment of you singing...
Major props to you for making a living off of one of your passions. I love that!!!
12,000 people is a pretty big crowd! Would you beleive I've never sung the anthem on any sort of professional level. (I have sung the Alaska Flag Song more times than I can count, however!)
Hodel's a challenging role. You don't need degrees to be a good singer, obviously. I just didn't ever want to study anything else and I'm so grateful for my wonderful job that I love everyday and never feels like work.
Good luck with your musical ambitions. I'm sure you have gobs of talent on par with your raw radiance!
Nice to meet you both (/all :) )! I love music. I love to sing. I sing my heartsong to the plants. In the car. And sometimes to my husband. I have been terrified
for as long as i can remember
of speaking my mind
using my voice
being in my calm and powerful center
so i am interested in seeing how this changes
as my raw journey progresses.

So how has everyone's relationship with music/ singing changed/ evolved since embarking on their 'raw journey'?
Divine melody--that's beautiful! Nice to meet you too! It's great to have you as addition to the community :) I'm sure you make the plants grow vibrantly with your voice...I think you'll see that you will change a bit on raw, using your voice. Or atleast I have.
I'm so glad that you brought up being terrified about being in center, and using your voice. I've felt the same way for SUCH a long time..I'd use my voice, but in the back of my mind I always felt restricted by other people's opinions--good or bad. I'm making huge strides in the direction I want to be in. It sounds similar to that calm that you're talking about.
With my singing, I've definitely gone to new heights with my voice since going raw. Being able to sing lower, higher, more clear, and more ME, I don't ever "warm up" [actually I never have] before I sing...But I sing so much better than I used to, and I think it's only going to get better! Also with the change in my spirit, feeling more light and fun, I sing whenever I can, no matter who it's in front of...it's a great freedom. I love it!
Thanks again for being a part of our group ..I'm interested in seeing your progress too :)
Rande, welcome to the group!! That's awesome that you are a performance major. You've been in musicals? If you have, you'll have to tell me which one(s)..my goal is to be in a musical in the next year. I love the styles that you're talking about. If you have any recordings of yourself, please share ;)

I love singing Christmas songs! You girls are all so impressive! I think being raw gives you more inner confidence and connection, which helps immensely with self expression! It has taken me the past 4 years to sing in front of people. Now I do it professionally and ALMOST feel like I can fully express myself. I'm sure it would be better if I went 100% raw again : )
I used to sing harshly in a punk band (myspace.com/thesweetnothings), now i sing a little softer (myspace.com/davidbenjaminbartels) and backups and drums in: (myspace.com/helloisabellas)...
hello, great to meet fellow singers here. I've been singing and songwriting since I was a young girl. I spent many years performing my own music live but do not do that just now. I prefer writing and recording my songs. Have a listen if you like at myspace
I've just posted a nice song about Angels there. I have a player on my profile page here too.
Going to a therapist can help you to be clearer with yourself and with others about what's bothering you. But I don't think it really changes how you feel.
To do that, I would recommend doing mental exercises. For example, if you're angry at your...
Hi. I have nothing against therapists and many of my friends have had alot of success with them. Me personally though, not really.

Baby, this answer rocks. I understand it completely. I did quite a lot of pills over a 2 year period in my 20s and got to experience all of what you described in your 1st paragraph. When I keep my raw diet pure and stay away from nuts, I feel the ...

Full disclosure - I work as a therapist.
Yes, it helps.
But you should know that the value of it can't be described by the speed of the healing process or whether you're looking or seeming perfect. Therapy is about coming to terms and coming back...
I always used to get sick on foods from restaurants, but the same meal I prepared at home wouldn't make me sick.... restaurants tend to drown foods in butter and oils, you've probably been eating less of those since going on those diet.
