What I find interesting is that what is deemed as the, “polyamorous” lifestyle has always been a fully functioning reality in most Western cultures. Most Western cultures are so hypocritical by promoting monogamy by day as the sole and most sanctimonious way of the sexes uniting, while by night extramarital affairs, pornography, prostitution, and divorce have always been historically rampant throughout the Judeo-Christian world.
I think this term for “multiple lovers” defines merely the difference between open polyamorous relationships and the western historical norm, secretive polyamorous relationships.
I also believe if one believes in polyamory, they should have no problem in committing themselves in a polygynous or polyandrous relationship, whereas communal resources are collectively developed while equally beneficial to all involved. Outside the dogmatism and puritanical posturing of most western cultures, communal relationships with multiple partners are not viewed as being so “abnormal” or supposedly “immoral” amongst most other cultures in the world
Different than what most men think, matristic or women-centered cultures were probably the origins of poly-relationships such as polygyny, for I believe that women, before the age of patriarchy viewed the community’s collective power as well as the communal connections of women and mothers as being more important than the proverbial sole “woman of the house” or the single headed household, both being more exploitable by western culture than what has been admitted.
Peace
