Nice! It makes you a geek, but not necessarily a nerd, like CHARLES! Unless you also watch too much Battlestar Galactica;-)
If I wasn't such a compu-tard, I might actually use Excel.
Brilliant! If I did more recipes, I would use something like that. As it is, my shopping consists of buying all the available greens that look good, all the fruit that looks good, all the veg that looks good, and whatever seeds or nuts are calling my name that day. Then I take it home and have lots of green smoothies, salads, and little snacks of nuts and seeds.
I tried doing recipes for a while, but it was really frustrating because I live in a less populated area, so I'd show up and there'd be no kale or no avocadoes or no bell peppers or no mushrooms and I'd have to figure everything out in the moment about what on my list I should still get and what not to get and what to change. Going recipe-less was very freeing for me.
I still do recipes sometimes, when I'm really craving a lemon pudding or mock salmon pate or want to make a particular dish for someone else but now I just go list-less and buy whatever's at a good price and looks really good and save excel for tracking my weight loss.
