hey everyone
i went to red sugar today as i was in the area and thought I'd have a wee smoothie. It's now changed in to 'stockbridge chocolates'. Seems they aren't a raw cafe anymore but a chocolate shop. There's no drinks as far as I can tell and nowhere to sit either. So if you're after raw chocolates (assuming it's still raw stuff) then you can still go, if you're looking for a raw treat then you'll have to make your way to London. I guess it wasn't working out for them financially.
Lets hope some other creative entrepreneurs who can see the golden opportunities set up raw cafes for us in Scotland ASAP! I think a vegetarian/vegan restaurant, hopefully organic, with a good selection of raw dishes might be the way to go financially, to create cafes that would suit a mix of tastes - including ours.....imagine that! Anyone out there want to start a helpful business?
If i was in the financial position to do so I'd open one tomorrow! :)
There are a handful of vegan places in Glasgow but to be honest in my opinion they're pretty crusty/studenty. We could really do with a nicer place to go with lovely wines and er, less crustiness. No offence intended.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Was hoping to try red sugar out when I head to edinb in a few weeks :( thank you for the warning! Yeah I would love to run my own foodie business, if it was financially viable, but if it involved making raw choc it wouldn't be too successful as I'd have the same problem... what profits?! ;)
Yeah, perhaps I'll try their choc to console myself! Was disappointed to hear about Grassroots cafe in Glas too - hopefully we won't lose anywhere else...
Hi Laroo, it's greener to order your raw chocolate from me!! I love making it and can make it to order ie with hemp, bee pollen, lavender, roses, mint etc. Bit cheeky of me to add that I know. It's good to support RS too.
Yeah, so were we. We were lucky to dine there in honor of an American Thanksgiving (:-) and in celebration of work projects...but then realised they shut down.
It will be time at some point for a come back....raw food is a coming.
Wow Emma, what news! Kal and I had just visited there finally and talked to the owner about hoping to catch up with you all......We had the raw bean burgers and hummus, plus smoothie....She had said that you had stopped in just a couple of weeks before we did.
So they are showcasing chocolates huh?
Where in London would you recommend....We are hoping to stop by when we are there.
I would highly recommend Dragonfly although I've heard there might be talk of them only doing raw menus at the weekend so you might be best to phone up in advance to check. Saf is lovely, quite pricey and very gourmet, they do some cooked food too.
Vita organic is really lovely too.
Selfridges has a raw bit in their store, I haven't been but apparently they do raw burgers and such. There's also a new raw place opened next to Caffe Nero's at 1 Bishopsgate, Liverpool Street Station, EC2M 3YD. Not been but got some good reviews.
Thank you for your positive words everyone. I've been raw for 8 months and it was simply dissappointing to have gone through such a binge! Besides I felt physically awful!
Onward we march from here! lol
