Give it to me Raw

Hello Everyone,
I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting many of you but I do hopefully look forward to doing so in the near future time. I'm not usually an attendee to the potlucks, so I do tend to miss many opportunities to meet the group members. It's so nice to see a budding and growing group of raw foodies in this cool climate of ours in Scotland, esp' in winter! I know many find it challenging to stay warm in winter but many of those that I've spoken to eat raw like they are living in the Bahamas! Anyway, the main reason I tend to avoid indoor meetups is I overheat quickly because I eat for a much cooler environment and I seem to prefer the outdoors! I also like to eat in silence!
To the point of this discussion, I'm looking to get back into walking again, after being so busy with business and DIY projects of late. The first walk that I had in mind was a mainly flat level walk from Drymen to Milngavie just outside Glasgow. The walk itself forms the first part of the West Highland Way route but in reverse and is approx' 4-5 hours. If anyone is interested in joining up you are most welcome. The meeting point would be Milngavie train station where we would get a bus to Drymen and we would be walking back to Milngavie train station. I haven't thought of a date yet but it would probably be a Saturday morning Mar/Apr? The walk would be a good way to meet and share insights and ideas as well as picking some wild foods along the way. The only cost involved would be getting to the meeting point and a one way bus ticket to Drymen, not sure off hand how much, but probably £5 or thereabouts. The weather would also be a deciding factor if the walk goes ahead, not much fun in the rain!

Yours in heat!

Bob

Hi Claudia,
I don't know of anyone over on the east coast doing them, you might need to look a bit further afield. It might cost you a small investment but when you consider the amount of money you can save during the growing season on greens, esp' as a raw foodist, it can be quite substantial, and hugely substantial over a lifetime! I rarely bought greens from a supermarket in the early days raw because nature provided them free of charge:) I may also be considering arranging a wild food walk for a couple of hours near the spring time when natures supermarket opens it's doors fully, but nothing organized yet. if you ask around the forum and you might be able find someone who could explore it with you closer to home.

Love

Is this still going ahead Bob?

Baby nettles are starting to spring up everywhere here in sunny Dumbarton and seeing them reminded me of your raw walk.

Hi Paddy,
You must be lucky with the weather as it's pouring here in Clydebank! I managed to gather a few baby nettles, some dandelions, hawthorn leaves, hedge garlic and wild blackcurrant leaves this morning for my smoothie, yum:) I'm planning to redesign my garden, permaculture style, to getting maximum yields and ease of mainentance. On top of that a load of DIY jobs are needing done. I do hope to fit the walk in at some point but it's a little too early to say when. I would also like to see a bit more abundance with the wild foods before planning the walk so as to make it more worthwhile.
Have you been picking the wilds too?

Hi Bob.
Yeah its raining just now in Dumbarton too lol. Has been sunny though over last couple of weeks, even got some sunbathing done last week lol.

Ok cool was just checking it was still on and that you were still excited about it. I am :)
All i have picked is wild celery from my back garden.
Raspberry leaf is growing too just now in my back garden will be picking that too when it grows a little further.
Usually go picking just behind my back garden for wild garlic and nettle, houses have been built here though in last couple if months which is why I am desiring to find another area which is close by, easy to access and overflowing with delicious wild foods :).

Keep us posted :)
