Give it to me Raw

so now having lived in LA for 20 months, ive really got into this raw lifestyle being about 80%. There are so many restaurants and raw health stores and now im coming back to Scotland im like is there anything? I'm home in 4 weeks and i am going to be loading up on LARA bars, Stevia ( i hear they dont have that) AGAVE NECTAR, And whatever else i can think of. Can someone point me in the right direction here as where to shop eat. I will be around glasgow, manchester and london. in glasgow. so excited to be coming home, so nervous about the unhealthy lifestyle does that make sense.
oh and if anyone wants anything, let me know:)

It makes perfect sense scottishgirl and welcome home! Definitely bring the Stevia. Recipe books are dearer here and if you want Hippocrates raw food supplementds definitely bring them with, much cheaper in the StatesDo join the raw potluck groups on www.meetup.com there's an Edinburgh one and a Glasgow one both getting off the ground. I'll be away in America at the Tree of Life centre and writing a book and teaching at the Hippocrates Health Institute. I'll look forward to meeting you in May at one of the potlucks I hope.

What a lovely time to be coming home to Scotland - spring will be ready to greet you.

warm wishes,

Judy

I wonder why you're swapping LA for Glasgow? But then again, Scotland is beautiful and has an interesting climate. As Judy said, it's a great time to be coming back over and making a fresh start. Are you going to be based in Glasgow?

Hey there
Must be great being out in LA and having all those places to just go. I went to New York a few weeks ago and was amazed at how much stuff they have. It would be easy peasy being raw around all that stuff!

As for Glasgow/Scotland I'm afraid there aren't any raw restaurants and you'll be hard pushed to buy raw stuff in shops although I'm sure some supermarkets now have Lara bars and Nakd Bars. Grassroots in Glasgow is your best bet for more out there stuff including agave, different seeds/nuts, seaweeds, raw ice cream and limited raw chocolate etc. etc.

We did have a raw place in Edinburgh called Red Sugar but it's stopped doing savoury stuff now and only does raw cakes and smoothies.

There's plenty of meetups like Judy said with a group in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh. Hope to meet you at one of those!

Yes, the potlucks are probably your best bet for having the most delicious raw food available in Scotland.

Sainsbury's has lara and nkd bars.
Stevia- http://www.naturallygreen.co.uk/stevia-powder-125g-natural-sweetene...
Agave- Funky raw, fresh network or detox your world

I am creating a list from my favourites/bookmarks on my computer which includes all the websites/places where you can find the above mentioned items and many other raw items. I will post this in the next few days. This might be of assistance to you.

Congratulations on choosing to move back to Scotland. I am excited about meeting you when you arrive :)

Hey there scottishgirl, good to welcome you home.

I would echo what Emma said about Grassroots for an actual shop in Glasgow. Holland & Barrett also sell various sprouts like aduki beans. I get most of my stuff from Grassroots or from Detoxyourworld.com as Paddy has said. Sainsbury's is the best supermarket I think, but if you get a good Tesco they sell stuff like buckwheat as well. There are lots of internet places that you'll get from Paddy. Some of the others I use are Aconbury Sprouts for wheatgrass and sprout growing stuff, Coconutty.com and The Raw Chocolate Shop. Also try Damhead.co.uk farm shop - they deliver crates of stuff to your door including fresh organic kale and the like.

In London, there is a fantastic raw restaurant called Saf, the head chef being Chad Sarno. I've been lots of times as I'm frequently in London for work, and would heartily recommend it. There's also VitaOrganic which is a super healthy place that also does a proper raw menu in the evenings - would recommend that too. There's also the Inspiral Lounge which is more of a cafe place with a limited menu but still good, and another place whose name I can't remember as I've not been - it's more of a health food shop, but they also have a cafe that does raw items and sell some raw things in their shop. You'll find a post on it in the UK Raw group.

Regarding Manchester - sorry can't help you with that one - but do let me know if you find out as I wouldn't be surprised if I end up there at some point!

Weird - just read a review in Passion magazine (Shazzie's Detox Your World newsletter) about a wholefoods cafe in Manchester that does a little bit of raw food. It's callled Eight Day. If you're ever there, please let us all know what it's like.

And the name of the place I couldn't remember in London is Dragonfly.

Hope that helps! xx
