Give it to me Raw

Laroo

Hi everyone :) (+ are there good economical juicers out there...?)

Hi :)

It's v nice to join the group - really looking forward to learning more from you guys about the raw lifestyle: looking around the site I'm very inspired! I am still very new to eating raw (except enjoying raw fruit and veg from time to time anyway), and want to start gradually eating more & more raw until possibly all raw eventually (but also to have a vegan diet). Hoping to buy a juicer as I find green juices really delicious but only when very runny consistency. Trouble is vita-mix and blendtec so expensive - any cheaper versions you know of that might do the job? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Look forward to chatting to some fellow Glasgow Rawbies :) Thanks,

Laroo

Hi Laroo

Aren't Vitamix and Blendtec just blenders? You can make really great smoothies in blenders and don't have to shell out all the expense although obviously these are expensive because they will last you a long time. I usually get blenders from Argos/John Lewis or recently on ebay for about half the price for a brand new one so that would be my advice.

Juicers have their equivalent expensive products like Green Star. I have a centrifugal one which I got from Argos and it's lasted me really well. It doesn't extract as much juice but it does me well. Phillips are good ones that Jason Vale (the juice master) recommends!

Hope this helps

Hiya

Yeah true they are oops! But that's the consistency I'm going for, what they produce. Thanks for the ideas definitely like the idea of a centrifugal one to break down cell walls and make the nutrients more digestible. Will look into the Phillips ones too. Would like to start making tasty juices asap!

Hi Laroo,

It was great to meet with you too! I'm a bit confused as to whether it's a juicer or a blender that you're looking for, but I have a vitamix blender and a champion juicer. Not the economical choices but they are fantastic and I would recommend both. Probably economic in the long run as they have a reputation for lasting for years and years, but yes it's a bit of an investment in the first instance.

Hi Lucy,

Lol, I'm not sure I know either! I think it's a juicer I'm after, I guess... what confused me is even though vita-mix is a blender from what I've read it sounds ideal because it makes juices. Had a look at Champions and if I can afford to that might be the best investment for me (would come with a wheatgrass & travel juicer free too!) but have to figure that out first. Thanks :)

Um.. not really sure a Vitamix makes juices as such - it's really more like smoothies. But if you added water maybe you would get a more juice like texture to whatever you put in there, if it was too thick for your liking. It leaves no chunks or bits at all, even with nuts. Hemp seeds are the only things I've foujd that don't quite get mashed totatally, but you can seive the gritty bits out. That sounds like a bargain getting the extras with the Champion.

Here's an idea - you can come over to my house one time if you like and play with both of them and see which one suits you best. Even if you don't invest in either of those brands it would give you an idea of whether it's a juicer or a blender that's going to do what you would like to create. Anyoo laroo, you can let me know.

We make our juices with the vitamix by using a sieve.

HI, Blenders such as Vitamix and Blentec make whole fruit/veg juice. SO you still have pulp, and by adding water/ice, you get juice consistency. Juicer (masticating are best, as they are not heating the juice, preventing enzymes from being destroyed), making juice by sieving out the pulp -- what you get is juice that is absorbed by your body quicker. Hope this helps ;)

Go Germany! I'm no longer working with The LifeCo & Saf in Muc, or organising events, workshops & talks in Muc, as I am abroad. I still consult clients & can provide your fave superfoods. My RawCacaoLove chocolate can be ordered through me directly.

my magic bullet burnt out, it was good for travelling while I had it though. Can you get a second hand blender? The cheaper ones I have used don't chop up the greens as well. Try to get something with a higher wattage, like 1000watt.
