Give it to me Raw

I'm traveling to Chile next month, and I'm staying there for over thirty days. I've been raw for a few months now, and absolutely LOVE it!! I don't really want to eat any other way, but I'm worried about the possibility of staying raw during my trip. Chile has great fruit, but my mom told me to stay away from greens! I'm going to take my own cashews, almond butter, nori sheets, and things like that...
I don't know... this will be a challenge...

Bring some green powder to add to your smoothies if greens are a no-go in Chile. Maybe you should bring a bottle (don't pack it on your carry-on) of fruit/vegetable soap that cleans your fruits and vegetables from harmful bacteria. Load up on dehydrated crackers or you might be able to make some at your mother's but you have to use a very, very low temperature in the oven. I haven't tried it myself but some other raw vegans have. Do you have any raw food cookbooks that you can bring down to help you make fast, easy recipes? Try Raw Food Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet. The recipes do not require complicated or hard to find ingredients and there is no dehydrating involved.

I think the reason for staying away from greens is because the irrigation water used for them might not be the best. Most people don't eat raw spinach over there, believe it or not! Anyway, I had thought about taking some green powders and I will, but I'll miss the volume in my green smoothies. I love Jennifer Cornbleet and her recipes are great! Thanks for the tips! I'll try my best to stay 100% raw... I'll let you know how I did...

Hi RawZi!!!!
I'm glad to report that I've been here for a week and a half now, and so far so good!! I have been drinking my green smoothie every day with a special kind of organic spinach or chard that is watered with well water (as opposed to who knows what!...). Winter fruits are plentiful right now, and the pears are delicious! There's also mangos, and my personal favorite: CHERIMOYA. I ended up bringing cashews, almond butter, and raw crackers from the states and that has helped a lot too.... so as far as I could tell, you can be RAW in Chile if you want!! .... yeah!!

That's great! How does your family feel about the lifestyle? Are they curious?

They think I'm NUTS! ... but at the same time they realize it's awesome, and probably the best you can do for your health. To be honest with you, vegetarians are considered a little weird around here, let alone vegans.... so somebody who's raw is like from another planet or something... it makes me laugh!!!

Yeah, never much thought at the time though as it was late at night and had been about 40 degrees here. Oh well. I am so familiar with the way the Engish and Irish talk that I just assume everyone is the same with the kiwis and Aussies.

RGG, the belly-centered symptoms that most people (mistakenly) call hunger usually pass within 2-3 days. Your body is not hungry while fasting because it gets all of its needs met from its own reserves.

Another way to think about this is that "frugivore" is a word used by scientists to describe any animal that eats a fruit-based diet (including virtually all of the anthropoid primates). "Frugivore" has an accepted scientific definition. "Fruitari...

Hi Priyam and RGG, Even blending them is a big step down in quality from eating them whole, for a number of reasons. The pre-chewing argument -- often heard -- doesn't really carry much weight as the benefit of chewing in the mouth is that any re...

Try this. I found out about it when I worked at Jubbs longevity. There is absolutely no aftertaste and a bottle lasts forever. I've been using it for years. Lucky Vitamin has amazing prices on many things too. http://www.luckyvitamin.com/item/ite...
