Give it to me Raw

Tell me your oldest Hip Hop memory that stands out in ur head.

For me it was 1986 living in Bushwick BK, sitting in my pops lazy boy with my small but still presentable silver boom box listening to the DJ Red Alert Show waiting for songs I didn't have to come on, to press record. I hear this Ill ass beat coming on I press record and lo and behold it happens to be, My Melody by Eric B & Rakim.... Oh man, that joint made my hairs rise up, and mind you I was only 10, but yo i rocked that Tape non-stop for the next few weeks until I was able to get the original cassette single..... damn now im feelin all nastolgic... lol

I know this will sound lame but for some reason what comes to mind is the first 45 I bought by JJ FAD i remember sitting in my room trying to find the stupid insert piece for my record player. LOL it's this one part that was just so dope to me I would try to find it everytime with no luck since there was no rewind UGHHH

awww man u took it back to the 45's wooo weee... yesssiir that defintly rings bells... U just reminded me of how when I first heard Big Dady Kane's Aint no Half Steppin it was on Video Music Box (ironicaly today is the 25th anniversary party thanks poetree for the short notice). I was so open by that song that I had to learn it no matter what I usualy would have it on a cassete tape and keep rewinding and fast fowarding to write down the lyrics to learn what they sayin... man that song was so new it was only on video music box, so u know i had to stop n rewind that videotape, I was determined to learn that song... shoooo wait til I go to a hip hop kareoke oh yeah its on... lol

Poor Righteous Teachers - Shakila. I was in highschool and it was frustrating because I was kind of weird. I liked this guy but I wasn't going to do it with him. He ignored me and I was bummed. This song came at the right time!! Hahaha.

Nice, I reflect on this once in a while actually...I grew up as the oddity in my neighborhood, loving hip-hop. I was a wanderer and at about six years old, while riding my bike in the neighborhood I discovered some kids breakdancing, and off to the side to watch...and that is where I discovered "this song"...I had no idea what it was but every night I listened to Power 99 FM (Philadelphia), waiting until I heard it again. Finally I did and discovered it was U.T.F.O. and Roxanne Roxanne, thats when the journey began. Every night I would do the pause-record-pause-record-pause to get the songs from the radio station onto a cassette tape... yes, that's where it all began a long time ago!
