Maybe all raw is not the best thing for you? There are lots of non-raw foods that have nutritional benefits, and non-vegan foods too. I'm no expert, I just use common sense; I'm constantly experimenting with different food philosophies and ways of eating...

Even as low as 70% raw can be very healthy I hear.

My guess is if you continue to search you will find what works for you... =) I like this site because there are people with many different eating styles... so you'll be exposed to many avenues of thought...

Best wishes for you!

I agree with what asiris-arion says - even 70% is still high raw compared to most people's diets.

I have a lot of problems with cravings - I think I have underlying health problems that contribute, but certain foods trigger really badly - others I can be pretty sure of as safe - my goal is to have a diet that is free of craving triggers - because cravings and/or giving in to those cravings make my life a misery. So the way I am tackling it is, firstly, a reasonably simple diet free of obvious triggers (gluten, sugar, dairy etc (for me)) then, I keep a detailed food and general diary with symptoms/tiredness/tummyaches/cravings etc. noted. It can be quite a bore sometimes but I have learned that it is worth sticking to - I am not better yet, but am improving - and my success rate for eating without trigger foods is higher.

Good luck, and go by how you FEEL - if you feel great and have lots of energy there can't be all that much amiss, surely?

The spirit of experimentation is key as well as the attitude that each 'failure' is just one more step closer down the road to inevitable success!

WARNING for giveittomeraw newbies:

801010 discussions at GITMR can get pretty hairy!

Why?

I have no idea, that's just the way things are...

Reply to This

Aahh, I've noticed this as well. I just joined the 80/10/10 group so discussion over there shouldn't be as "hairy" hopefully...

This might explain the phenomena somewhat...

A group on 30bananasaday.com:

30bad internet guerilla outreach

Seeking recruits to participate in discussion 'raids' on forums & blogs re: veganism & animal rights. We aim to raise consciousness on these issues and influence opinion thru superior # of troops & quality of posts.. ..and have a bit of fun too ;D

Definition: Guerrilla warfare is the unconventional warfare and combat with which small group combatants use mobile tactics (ambushes, raids, etc.) to combat a larger, less mobile formal army. The guerrilla army uses ambush (draw enemy forces to terrain unsuited to them) and mobility (advantage and surprise) in attacking vulnerable targets in enemy territory. (source Wikipedia)

A discussion in the group: Enemy sighted: Organize and conduct raids here!

Provide urls and relevant intelligence info here, then rally your troops for discursive combat :D

.......

So be aware, you may be having a discussion with a militant minded member of this group... just letting you all know where these people are coming from... and their mind-set...

I'm wondering why I'm so smoothie challenged. Shouldn't making smoothies be easy and fun?! All mines turn out like crap no matter what fruit combo I use.

Hey, Q-ba-Reenie

Throw some fruits in the blender: soaked gojis, apples, bananas, mangoes, berries (maybe not all of them), for example.

Some greens: cilantro, kale, chard.

Some water, make it thick or thin (just like our relationship).

Start out with the idea if it tastes terrible (the greens), add some more fruit.

Some walnuts or cashew or seeds is a nice add.

Other add-ins: carob, cacao, maca, mesquite, (maca is a strong taste), bee pollen.

What do you put in yaws to "make it turn out so bad"? I wonder.....

I usually always put bananas in my smoothies... it gives it a nice creamyness. And one or more of other fruit, like blueberries.

Simplicity works best for me...

Honey to sweeten it...

And stuff like bee pollen, spirulina, maca, cacao beans, vanilla, or anything I have to make it 'super'.

And greens... to make it really nutritious...

And I almost always use water for the base...

But simplicity is the key for me for a great tasting smoothie... experiment!

Cool, Yogibear, you use carob? I'm going to get some... what works good with carob?

It's because you need to add greens to your smoothies. Try reading Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko. It's an amazing book about how she discovered green smoothies.

Here's a link to some quick and easy recipes with greens http://www.incrediblesmoothies.com/smoothie-recipes/

I tried a strawberry+peach thing once upon a time ago as well as mango+peach, strawberry+something else, and just straight up banana (but I made that one in a food processor since I'm out of a blender now :p) and they all sucked.

Maybe I'll do banana+apple. Would that even work? I'll try it tomorrow just to see.

I've never used water as a base so maybe that's a problem...

Thanks yall for helping :]
