Hi everyone! I have a question for anyone with experience of type 2 diabetes.
About a month ago I asked my doctor if I should stay away from fruit because I don't want to jerk my blood sugar around, and he asked if the fruit tastes sweet when I eat it and I was like yeah and he just smiled, so I took it to mean to stay away from sweet fruit.

Yet, I was reading on raw food boot camp where this one woman said orange juice spikes her blood sugar but eating the orange doesn't. So I had a hankering for fruit and got some oranges...

I checked my blood sugar then ate 2 oranges and re checked my b.s like 30 mins later - it dropped 20pts So I ate 2 more oranges and checked it 30 mins later and it had spiked up 102pts. So I checked it one last time 45 mins later without eating anything and it had dropped again this time by 116pts.

I don't know if its an issue of quantity or should I just leave oranges alone? Also al this is without medication interference.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi, Blackmajik Womban!

Before you give up on fruit entirely, try some other types and see how they affect you. It is my belief that you will eventually be able to eat whatever fruits you want, but you might have to give your body a chance to heal some more before you can handle oranges well or in quantity.

For personal reference, my A1c went from high 8s to high 5s the first three months I went raw. I ate a LOT of fruit, but mostly bananas and berries and apples. I ate some nuts but tried to keep them separate from eating fruit. I did not eat oils of any kind, but I did eat ground flax.

Hang in there, keep testing and eating what works for you and not eating what doesn't. Periodically re-test something that gave you problems before to see if it's still a problem. Try to get lots of greens in. Be patient with your body as it heals.

I sprinkle cinnamon on apples and pears and that seems to reduce any spikes!

I find berries are the best fruits.

I do fruit smoothies most mornings with NorthernEdge Flax seed sometimes I may add a little honey or agave nectur. I put cinnamon in my green tea and almond milk. My A1c has gone from high 9s to 6s. I use cinnamon a lot. I use to have neuropathy in my legs and feet. It's completely gone. I've even lost weight.
