Give it to me Raw

What are your eating habits before practicing yoga? I have found that what I eat beforehand really affects me. What are your good/bad experiences?

I like to eat a banana and drink coconut water about 15-30 mins. before class. I am hypoglycemic so I need keep my blood sugar even.
When I don't eat I want to pass out, so I make sure to be prepared by eating clean light meals throughout the day. Also I notice that after class all I want is fresh simple raw foods. YUM!

Lolixx- Good to know you have a snack a few minutes before class with no problems. I always try to follow that stupid "don't eat for 2 hours before class" rule, and so sometimes I go on a totally empty stomach and I want to pass out. I like to eat some fruit a couple hours ahead of time, and drink some coconut water just before I leave. I LOVE coconut water after class too, it feels so restorative and perfect.

i think it totatlly depends from person to person. i can't eat for 2 or even 3 hours before class or i will feel SUPER nauseous during class. but my mom can eat a full meal (like, i've seen her eat a rueben sandwich with fries) right before class and is totally fine!!
if i feel like i need something in my tummy, i'll drink coconut water before, but usually don't drink it during class because i think it's too sweet.
one thing i've noticed is that i can NEVER, EVER eat peppers prior to a class (even if i wait hours) because it gives me strange reflux during the floor poses - i've almost puked a few times while on my stomach because of peppers! i wonder why..?

Erin- your mom did NOT eat a reuben and fries before class lol! I would throw up for sure, that's just amazing.
I totally agree with you that coconut water would be gross in class, something about the sweetness being warm that grosses me out.
how do you know it was the peppers that made you feel sick? i have been thinking they've been making my tummy hurt too...

6am class, empty stomach. Best feeling ever. After class, replenish with some HIgh Country Kombucha. If I'm doing an evening class, I'll eat lunch four hours before class. anything closer to the actual class time makes me feel nauseous/dizzy.

Krose - i know it's the peppers, because i can taste them coming up! so gross. and it always happens without fail whenever i eat them in a salad or something else before class.
Ilene - I agree about the coffee. I drank it one time before class and felt SO WEIRD. i couldn't tell if i liked it or hated it! it was definitely a different class experience....

I know the benefits of exercising on an empty stomach, so I try my best to not eat anything before class or when I do, keep it to the very bare minimum. Like.. grabbing a piece of coconut meat I've scraped out and tupperwared from the fridge on the way out.

I usually eat something small like a clemetine/s or drink some juice like 30 minutes before. My practice is a lot more solid.
